She agreed to test. The kit is on its way to her house.

1/4 Cape Verdean, 3/4 Madeiran Portuguese.

It is unclear to me what she will get considering on every test, my mother and I score different amounts of SSA. My mother can be anywhere from just below 2% to as high as 4%.

I'd guess about 7.5 (8)%

I think GEDmatch will give the most accurate number because 23andme can suffer from bias due to the components but I imagine on 23andme she will get 4-5%. And on GEDmatch it might go up to 7%.

I would be surprised if it is as high as 10%. But it could be. Maybe my mother did not inherit the SSA segments as much, because I didn't inherit most of my mother's.

2 questions:

1. Are your other grandparents still living and if so have you convinced them to test? (3 of my grandparents are still living)

2. How do you convince older relatives to test?

2. How do you convince older relatives to test?

1. Three of them are living, one of them is deceased.
2. I just asked her to do it after years of pressure about it and she finally gave in.

Analysis is about halfway through. At least the number of steps.

I am honestly a bit anxious to see because the results could be anything.

Any plans to test your grandfather?

She looks 0% Negroid. I'd guess about 4% based on what you and your mom score though.

Not really. He's white, and of Eastern European descent, that is all there needs to be. My mother scores 44% East Europe on 23andme.

Might be helpful to find more distant relatives of his who you are too far removed from to match.

I'm trying to convince older relatives to test, and it is quite the uphill battle

I'm waiting for my father's results. His kit has recently been batched by FTDNA.

I'd say 4%, just thinking she doesn't show any subsaharan trait.
She looks fully Iberian IMO.

Probably 6% Negroid, 94% Caucasoid

As if whites and Eastern Europeans were all the same. To me he would be no less interesting than finding your almost non-existant "black roots". Your grandmother is 1/16 SSA at best.

I’m probably more negroid than her and score <1%.

Why FTDNA?
Because other companies don't ship to my country.

Well, anything in my grandfather that is not NE European would likely be lower than my grandmother's SSA, so it is not something particularly relevant to find out.
