The boy's parents were called by school management and humiliated not only for 'indecent incident' at school but also for uploading photos with girls on social networking sites.

In a shocking turn of events, a private school in Thiruvananthapuram expelled a class XII student for hugging a schoolmate. The boy had hugged his female friend as a gesture of appreciation after her exemplary performance during an Arts festival in the school.

Surprised by the school's stern action on such a trivial matter, the boy's parents approached the State Child Rights Commission, who passed an order in favour of the student. However, the school management moved High Court, which quashed the order.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

1. A class XII boy hugged his female friend after her performance at an event in school.

2. A teacher, who saw them hugging, found it inappropriate and a violation of school discipline and decided to punish them.

3. She took both the students to the vice principal's office for the "indecent public display of affection".

4. The vice principal, however, was convinced with the boy's explanation and let the students go after taking a written apology from them.

5. But the boy's class teacher was adamant that it was wrong on part of the students to have hugged and they shouldn't be allowed to walk off without being punished.

6. Two days after the incident, which took place on July 21, the boy's father was summoned by the secretary of the school's managing trust. The parent said that they were showered with abuses by the secretary.

7. "The secratary asked me to kill my son rather than bringing him up with such 'indecent behaviour'. They called my son heated bull and said that he deserves severe punishment," the father of the class XII boy said.

8. The boy's parents were once again called by the school management and humiliated for 'indecent incident' at school. The school management also criticised the boy uploading photos with girls on social networking sites.

9. After the issue blew out of proportion and expelled the boy, his parents approached the State Child Rights Commission.

10. The committee passed an order in favour of the student. However, the school management moved High Court and quashed the order.
