So according to wikipedia he considered himself to be an orthodox Croat.
There was a catholic Sorb that was a Serbian general in WW1
Paulus Sturm, an ethnic Sorb[2][3][4] (a Slavic people also known as "Wends"), was born and raised in Görlitz (Upper Sorbian: Zhorjelc, Lower Sorbian: Zgórjelc), in Prussian Silesia.[3]
He fell in love with Serbia instantly, marrying a Serbian woman. In order to become naturalized, he changed his name into Pavle Jurišić-Šturm in 1876.[6] Pavle being a cognate of Paulus, and Jurišić being derived from a modulated translation of the word "charge" (sturm in German, juriš in Serbian). He kept his German last name as an alias ("Šturm").

He was Serb by ethnic origin. Is absolute not matter in that case how he consider himself, his parents were orthodox Serbs from Banija.
