I came across this website about Prehistoric Drenthe and it shows some reconstructed villages which I thought I'd post:

You've got to admit: it does look very idyllic doesn't it? This is what I most admire about the Dutch countryside, how it blends from farmlands to woodlands and waterways.
It reminds me a bit of parts of East Anglia, but it looks more "untouched" whereas English countryside can often look over-managed.
The use of wood and natural materials in the construction of these buildings is quite nice as well, they just blend into the landscape and look well suited to it. I think modern designers could learn a thing or two by looking at the style of buildings from centuries past, especially on blending buildings into a landscape.

Nice photographs. I agree it looks like the sort of place where people lived in peace.

The highlighted comment struck me funny, though. Wouldn't it be something to come across a pre-historic village and find a lot of stainless-steel framed plate glass windows? THAT would send the archeologists 'round the bend!
Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff!

The houses look like the reconstructions of Stone age houses excavated in northern Finland.

They were built in long rows like this:

Pre-historic life was the same all over Europe.

Yeah, we had little wooden houses similar to the ones in the Netherlands during Anglo-Saxon times and roundhouses before that.
