Well the thread about the decreasing number of blue eyed people. Well why not post some pictures of our own eyes.
Now I'll start...
The central area is a bit greener than the picture shows.

Green eyes. Everyone in my fathers family, besides myself & my 3rd son is blue-eyed. My mothers family has a lot of browned people. Both my maternal grandparents were browneyed. I blame that on my grandfather's 1/2 German ancestry & my grandmother's distant Bavarian & Swiss ancestors. My mother was grey-eyed.
Blue with a little yellow/hazel in the middle.

Mine are hazel-green as distinguished from hazel-blue, although I have no picture available at the moment I have a shade of brown around the center (the pupil I believe) that turns a yellowish color when my blood pressure rises, alcohol, love making, anger, passion etc.. makes my eyes brighter...the green in my eyes also turns brighter when the brown turns a bright gold or yellow.

Mine are very much like this, but they have this weird kind of dark blue/grey ring on the outside edge. I've only just noticed that it's not a particularly common thing. I like it - gives a very definite edge to my iris. I'd take a picture but I don't think my camera's good enough.
EDIT: Actually scrap that - Brynhild and Loyalist both have a similar outer ring. Striking.

Some did. That's odd though to inherit only a tiny little ring around the pupil instead of a more pronounced blend or dominance.

Nice pic! You can clearly see the iris and the pigment. You've got light-mixed or grey-green eyes. There is slightly more pigment present than in mine. Id say 10 or 9 on the Martin's scale :)

I think Tabiti is correct. My grandmother had brown eyes. My grandfather had green-grey, and my dad had dark green. My mum had blue-grey, and I got gree-grey. I think the eye colour behaves a bit like a quantitative, polygenic trait. If this is true then the "green eye" alleles would be those that code for little yellow spots and aureolas (instead of a thick layer of brown pigment) which blend with the blue iris and give the eye a green appearance.

This would make sense, having a blue/grey predominance with a ring of yellowish brown around the pupil sort of mirrors the eye color variation in my family.
In my mother's family everyone is blue eyed (mostly a dull sort of blue), however in my fathers family the blue eyed people are this piercing blue sky blue with a white ring around the pupil, then the rest are a yellowy brown with bluish grey specs.
My blueish grey predominance resulting from that being the predominance in my immediate family, then the yellowy brown ring from the remainder.

Unfortunstely, its almost impossible to obtain the scale nowadays. Perhaps at auctions. I don't even think they still produce these glass eyeballs. As for my data, I only have rough descriptons from various anthropological handbooks. I posted them in the "Are green eyes Nordics?" thread. They allow to roughly reconstruct the scale.
Your eyes appears light-mixed. There is some brown pigment, but overall blue colour is clearly dominant. The pigment is also concentrated around the pupil, unlike Tabiti's. I am not certain, but they appear slightly greenish, particularly on the first pic. Therefore, I would assume they should correspond to 11 or 10. If this "greenish" impression is incorrect, then it would be 13 or 12.

hey Jarl, what would be mine in that scale?
Mine are from close distance looking very blue, but from some bigger a way distance my eyes look somehow green sometimes, and from a far, far distance look somehow dark... http://anthroforum.com/images/smilies/standard/biggrin3.gif

Unfortunstely, its almost impossible to obtain the scale nowadays. Perhaps at auctions. I don't even think they still produce these glass eyeballs. When I went to get my drivers license the BMV clerk thought I had green eyes, so that's what it says on my drivers license lol. So I'd say the greenish impression is correct.

Does that includes green/brown mixes?
Wasn't specified exactly. But was specified clearly that the "dark majority" was constituted by pure dark eyes : pure brown, most often on the dark brown.
comparatively........Portugal resulted to be 75-80% dark eyed ; 8% light eyed, and 15% mixed.
At this point we could divide the "mixed" class in two sub-classes : "light mixed" and "dark mixed".
So, hypothetically, the combination of light + mixed light categories would be 15%, while the dark + mixed dark categories would account for 85% of the total in the case of Portugal.
But this is just ONE kind of methodology to intepretate data. We could use others.
For example we could consider togheter the mixed eyes (without sub-divisions) and light eyes : would be 8% + 15% about.
So........Portugal would have 75-80% of dark eyes and 20-25% of peopls who aren't.
Everything depends from the exact methodology you choice to interpretate data.

Yep, though it depends a lot where you are though. Up in the mountain villages it is not uncommon to see fair hair/eyes. Both of my parents come from (mountain)villages with predominantly fair people. In my fathers village most people have red/orange to light brown hair. My mother's is more mixed but still fairer than average in Greece.
Though from my experience hazel eyes are common in cities too, chances are big that you will run into somebody with green eyes as well.
I was raised in a pretty ordinary village though and I was the only one in my class with blonde hair and used to get called "Frank"(=crusader) by my mates :).

I thought as much. Are the villages in both Macedonia and around Sparta? That's how it is in eastern Serbia where I'm from. My father's village are mostly blond and with that red/orange color of hair like you said which I was born with but turned darker as I aged, thank god :D The more east you go to the Danube the more brunets you will see and less Slavic speakers too.

The problem here is not low-quality, but poor focus. You are probably taking the picture from to close to get a proper focus.
I suggest trying it with the camera from further away and cropping afterwards on the computer.
Did you use a zoom?

No, I did not. I simply set my camera to "close up mode" which is supposed to be for objects closer than 28 inches, which did help a little, but it could be much better. Photography is not my forte.
I will try the method you have described later on today, but I have some errands to take care of at the moment.

Ok. I got new batteries for my camera and took some photos using the method that Loxias advised.

Mine are just brown. Everyone on my mom's side has brown or hazel and my father and his family all have blue eyes.

Equivalent to my eyes. The most similar shade amongst apricians.

I think mine are grey but it is a difficult colour to define as they never look quite the same. Most often they look turquoise like here.

Rally nice eye :)
But, honestly, the pic itself isn't usefull for any precise comment about the exact shade.
Not your fault of course : the problem is that taking good shots of the iris isn't so simple. I still use an old pic if mines since i've never shot another one so good.
AlbamaMan eye's pic is perfect : zoom, light, etc.
I have gray eyes

Mine are extremely dark. Most of my mom's side has grey(mom has grey, but use to have blue), blue, or light green. Most of my dad's side has dark brown(almost black like me) with some having hazel. I also have very large black rings around the brown part that make it look even darker in a distance.

That's not "extremely dark" at all. It's just a nice shade of light brown.

Brown, but in comparison with my pale skin they seem black.

I have dark rings too which, despite my eyes being hazel, make them look straight brown. It's an interesting composition.
Medium to light brown i guess...

This is the best photo I could get. The yellow discoloration is a result of the lighting.

A very curious statement... Could you specify what it is that so strikes you? Is the same thing rare among your people, or absent?

Nooo, blue eyes are not rare at all in my country including blond population-but it is different..., and in such colour and such shape and skin aorund of his eyes is something for my personal feeling what I placed as British. And, his eyes are somehow feminine-if you look them you couldn't exactly say are they belong to the man or woman...(no offense please, it is just my remark).
Btw, I removed a pict of your eyes I couldn't stand to stare at me:D, your eyes are not to me something what I could described as British, it is more ordinary, every day European eyes. Very malish.:pAnd especially your hair, I noticed such rich and beautiful hair is rather rare in your country....hmmm hmmmmm I wonder...:wink

The so called Persian eyes? Many people all around Europe have them, however most are females I think.

Well, not sure I thought the term Persian eyes are mostly for very dark black and bigger and more round (not small as we have here)eyes, which are quite rare...still not so sure

The eyelid is full and the eyes are prominent, beautiful, gorgeous, rare and exotic. The eyes are big and usually brown. Some may be hazel persian eyes
Form is important here, not the colour.
