The Political Philosophy Test

I was inspired to make this webpage after seeing there were many popular online quizzes out there (ie: www.politicalcompass.org (http://www.politicalcompass.org/), www.self-gov.org/quiz.html (http://www.self-gov.org/quiz.html), franz.org/quiz.htm (http://franz.org/quiz.htm)) that all did a nifty thing of letting people take a quiz and find out where they stood on the political landscape. The idea was ingenius, since there are so many people out there who don't understand politics and where they stand or even what the different parties mean.

However, after seeing the results for nearly every site, I realized that the tests were misleading. Nearly everyone would end up with the same exact score [somewhere in the liberal range usually], and only in very rare occasions would anyone score outside of that. You could retute that by saying that the liberal philosophy is the right one, and more people are liberal then they realize. But the fact that over 95% of the people ended up in that range proves that it is clearly not the best judge of where people stand (since Republicans control everything, there must actually be people out there with republican philosophy). After after looking at the questions, its not a surprise. The majority of the questions are either biased, confusing, or politically irrelevant.

For a while, I thought about the idea of a better quiz, but it wasn't until I saw The 3-line quiz , the first political quiz made with three dimensions, that I was inspired to make my own. But I thought there were a few mistakes in it however, such as confusing or loaded questions. And I also thought that the three lines chosen were not three, but actually four or five, and could be branched out even further. So thats what I decided to do.

I took it as well and this is what I got:

The Quiz

<script language="JavaScript"> function popUp(URL) { day = new Date(); id = day.getTime(); eval(&quot;page&quot; + id + &quot; = window.open(URL, '&quot; + id + &quot;', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,men ubar=0,resizable=0,width=555,height=367');&quot;); }</script> <script language="JavaScript"> function popUp2(URL) { day = new Date(); id = day.getTime(); eval(&quot;page&quot; + id + &quot; = window.open(URL, '&quot; + id + &quot;', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=1,location=0,statusbar=0,men ubar=0,resizable=1,width=650,height=550');&quot;); }</script> <script language="JavaScript"> function popUp3(URL) { day = new Date(); id = day.getTime(); eval(&quot;page&quot; + id + &quot; = window.open(URL, '&quot; + id + &quot;', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=1,location=0,statusbar=0,men ubar=0,resizable=1,width=900,height=650');&quot;); } </script> The following are your scores. They are based on a gradual range of 0 to 12. For instance, a Conservative/Progressive score of 3 and 0 will both yield a result of social conservative, yet 0 would be an extreme conservative and 3 a moderate conservative

http://politicalquiz.110mb.com/score/score_2.jpg

Conservative/Progressive score: 2
You are a social conservative. You believe in traditional values, and care first and foremost about your country, your family, and your religion. You dislike the agenda of the left because you see them as trying to destroy these things.

http://politicalquiz.110mb.com/score/score_5.jpg

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 5
You are a Moderate Capitalist. You support an economy that is by and large a free market, but has public programs to help people who can't help themselves or need a little help. Pretty much you believe in the American economy how it currently is.

http://politicalquiz.110mb.com/score/score_0.jpg

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 0
You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

http://politicalquiz.110mb.com/score/score_1.jpg

Pacifist/Militarist score: 1
You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Libertarian

Conservative/Progressive score: 6
You are a social moderate. You think the progressive movement is overall well meaning, but sometimes it goes too far. On issues like abortion and affirmative action, you see the negatives of both extremes on the issue. You probably value religion, but at the same time you think it should still stay separate from the government

It decided I was a moderate, capitalist, libertarian, pacifist. And then it called me a Democrat.

Yeah, um no, not really. Personally I consider myself an isolationist. I don't want any more immigrants and I think we've got too many damned people in the United States anyways. I prefer small communities and would prefer the government leaves me the hell alone. I want the government out of 'morality', out of my bank account and really totally and honestly; out of my face.

I don't want it deciding when and where I can buy and use alcohol, what substances I can choose to injest, how I should practice my religion, how I need to be patriotic and how I need to worship the military, how fast I drive on the highway, what music/movies I listen to no matter how violent or offensive they are to others, who and how I have sex, or basically telling me how to go about my life.

And I'm in no way a pacifist; I just don't care about the Middle East. Let them blow each other up.

I think all government is flawed. In a perfect world; I'd prefer a period of Enlightened Despotism.

What political party do I belong to? Haha.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 11
You're a Social Capitalist, you think that, left to its own, Capitalism leaves a lot of people behind. You think that Health Care should be free to all, that the minimum wage should be raised, and that the government should provide jobs to all that are capable of having them. You likely hated the Bush tax cuts, and believe that the middle class has gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer over the past several years. The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism.

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 9
You're an Authoritarian. You believe that that, left to their own, many people will do immoral or harmful things. You despise drug users, pornography, violence, and all other things that you consider immoral. You also think that security is often more important than protecting rights. You think children need to be protected from seeing these things so it doesn't warp their minds, and that the will of the majority sometimes is more important than the rights of the minority.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 11
You're a Militarist. You believe that since the United States has so much power in the world, it has a responsibility to keep the world safe. You think that if the US does not exert its power in the world, it may eventually lose its power, and that we can not look weak in the face of terrorists, and must take them out where they live.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Moderate

I really wonder about the categories. Oh well, that was a laugh :D Watch out for that Maelstrom - he's just another Moderate!!! :p

Pacifist/Militarist score: 5
You're a Moderate. You think that in very rare occasions, the United States should invade a country in order to make the world better by spreading democracy or ending a tyrants rule. You also think that defense is very important, and we shouldn't lower the defense budget. You think that, while the Iraq War probably was a mistake, that we can make the world a better place by sticking with it and spreading democracy in the middle east.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Hardcore Republican

OKe, don't know where the last one came from. Since there where practily no direct questions about a world-crusade to spread democracy. But I'm not suprised that I'm called a hardcore Republican.
