Predominantly green-blue (or gray I don't know really, so green parts>50% of the eye) with hazel/yellow spots

Well, the forum is mainly european, so it's not surprising that a large portion of the members have eyes lighter than medium brown-light brown.

Of course, I have similar examples in my family, I've said that's not surprising that here many people have a lighter iris than dark brown given european ancestry.

I believe the most accurate term is hazel, even though hazel is ambiguous by nature, meaning a mix of colors but usually containing green. I'd call them "light hazel", and also, very pretty!

I always thought I had Central heterochromia, and never knew hazel includes some blue. After reading how to tell the difference between eyes with Central heterochromia and hazel eyes... I see now that they are indeed light hazel.

No,but the way the pupil looks could indicate suffering from cataracts in the future, but taking my parents as a reference, it would still take 30 years before my vision could be affected too much and I would have to have surgery.
For a moment you worried me a little, but I took a good look at both eyes and what might look like arcus senilis must simply be a visual effect. (in the image there may be reasonable doubts that what you say could be but I think it can be seen that is not.)
Or that's what I and whoever has looked at them want to think.:D

Second that, dermatologists make the big bucks and don't have much stress, easy documentation, its almost all Sks and old ladies wanting skin tags nitroed off all day, easy procedure, maybe a cyst or two sometimes; make a million dollars a year (before taxes that is) and all you have to think about is the skin and the 5000 dollar/half hour procedure if you have the right machine too.

Oh I was outpatient obviously lol, are you in the ER/floating there? The high dollar is cosmetic, which op derms will see for minor things that no one even notices without a magnifying mirror lol. We did dx SCs but obviously passed that onto a cancer specialist. I worked with them too though but for breast cancer, fortunately not long, that's tough work to just be around.

We did dx SCs but obviously passed that onto a cancer specialist. I worked with them too though but for breast cancer, fortunately not long, that's tough work to just be around.
Yes, I am in an abusive relationship with emergency medicine. I have been wanting to quit every other week for 5 years. But probably will never do. I love the adrenaline.

Thank you. They do change depending on what I wear.
Its so interesting! Yours are what I'd call light hazel; my husband's would be brown if indoors at a glance but match the tree canopy, like bright green, and a blueish smattering, when we are outside. Mine look brown at a glance indoors as well but outside I have a blue ring, green, then amber, and if I wear purple the dark blue is even visible in low light. It seems to me to be a celtic thing, is there a genetic thing to this?

I understand you, vicariously through former colleagues who all said the same thing you just did lol. My experience in ER was quite minimal, it was hard for me to do like nothing for several hours, be chillin, and then snap into life and death like that :eek2::fwhat::shrug::st

I think it's because while there are a lot of blue eyes in Ireland there is also one of the highest percentages of green and a lot of Irish have a lot of central heterochromia. My daughter has this and my mother had it as well but their eyes look green when looking at them initially but that is because of the mixture of yellow and blue in the eyes. My grandmother had more of hazel eyes. Hazel eyes to me are a greenish brown.
These are what I would call have hazel eyes. Some people call eyes that are mixed with blue, green and brown hazel. It appears to have different meanings depending on the person.

Yes they can look greyish as well but they do have a greenish ring around the pupil so I think that's why they can look different depending on the light and what colour clothes I'm wearing.

About telemedicine, surely, but also surely we can agree that not with just one bad quality photo.
With the Covid confinement and all that, all that became much more common. The first time I became aware of a practical use of telemedicine near me was in 2004, while deployed abroad. Now the tools have changed a lot. I suppose that all that was quite basic compared to what may be common today.

This is a reconstruction is of WHG man. EHG had light skin and brown eyes. Most Europeans are heterozygous for ancestral and mutated gene. It’s normal in Belarus and Russia for some people to have light brown hair or brown eyes. I find it hard to believe that no one in your extended family doesn’t have it. There is always some odd uncle or aunt that looks ancestral.

The Satsurblia CHG that is just a few centuries younger than the Villabruna1 WHG (14 kybp, the oldest detected individual with blue eyes) actually had one allel for blue eyes.
Btw. most WHGs also had brown eyes for millenia. Only towards the end (at abt. 8 kybp) for an unknown reason all known WHGs exhibited blue eyes.

Why should someone think post neolithic Turkey had EHG signal? wtf
It's about where the pre IE language came from prior to Yamnaya etc. Considering the Anatolian IE languages one could have expected a respective EHG signal. The lack of it makes it seem possible that the CHG part of the EHG-CHG mixture in the steppe was the carrier of the IE or pre IE language. Eurogenes/Davidski considers the testing not sufficient to exclude such an EHG signal and points out such signals - not too stronmg though - at the Thracian Bosporus in Northwest Trurkey. But I don't see "demolished Eurogenes spiels" because of that.
It seems to me a somewhat wannabe dramatic interpretation.

The bottom line is the fact that fstats cannot produce EHG signal in Turkey_BA, which means the Steppe is the secondary homeland of PIE.
As to your comment about conspiracy prone interpretations, I assume you refer to fringe blogspot and youtube circle-jerks, I go with the data that Reich has made available, since they are the ones that extracted it and made it available in the first place.

(...) G25 shitculators.
Why exactly is it more shit according to your opinion?
- First of all, no qpAdm run has been by far as practical to carry out till now. It's an enormous effort to proceed with that (comparably).
- The fact that something is complicated, requires effort and is used in academic papers is not yet anything that indicates that it is superior, In contrast, i've often found that findings from acadmic papers are banal and ridicolous compared to what can be found out with other calculators. Just imagine that poor "northern" and southern" DNA calculations in the Longobard papers regarding Szólád and Collegno. I've not yet seen any advantage of a qpAdm run. I'll be open towards that and also that much more SNPs are included is attractive, but I've not yet seen any result that suggests an advantage of that approach.
Considering the results I find the term shitculator as for an G25 calculator - which for sure has flaws - not factual.
But maybe you can explain some advantages.

Very quickly, w/o analyzing too much. Why PCAs like g25 suck.
1) No imputation process.
2) No outgroup list of population sources to compare against, PCA overcompensates by creating unrealistic combos.
3) Dimensional weights tweaked to suit the PCA author's biases (eg g25 data overfit Eastern Euro to distinguish them from Western Euro).
4) All points in dimensional space are treated equally, with no method to mitigate lower SNP count VS higher SNP count (see 1).
5) Scaling of data with no penalisation, creating artificial entities.

Very quickly, w/o analyzing too much. Why PCAs like g25 suck.
G25 is not a PCA but a summarising of genetics in 25 dimensions and can be used for a number of calculations. A 2D PCA is always an incredible loss of information compared to having information in 25D but this has nothing with G25 to do, of course.
1) No imputation process.
Thanks god. Imputation is guesswork and has not to be mingled in to the hard data. The enormous wrongs of genetic imputations became visible in the desatrous matching results in the database of MyHeritage and others when they tried to fix the problem of a low SNP overlap between the OmniExpress chip and the GSA chip. This is why GEDmatch refrains from imputation.
2) No outgroup list of population sources to compare against, PCA overcompensates by creating unrealistic combos.
A Vahaduo calculator uses all 25 dimensions of G25 coords and as I pointed out, a 2D PCA has nothing to do in particular with G25 and exhibits always the known deficiences. Compared is everything in a calculator to the references that you put in there. Nothing hinders you to add Yoruba (and Chimpanzee?) there if that feels better.
3) Dimensional weights tweaked to suit the PCA author's biases (eg g25 data overfit Eastern Euro to distinguish them from Western Euro).
First, it's not the G25 data but a particular PCA, f. i. the so called North Europe PCA. But indeed also the definition of the 25 values (dimensions) is a wilful decision that has to be made.
Second, every PCA is even more and inevitably a wilful construction. You could have one million differently constructed PCAs that display the same G25 data in another manner. You will have to transfer from 25 dimensions to two dimensions what you intend to display and if Davidski wants to distinguish Eastern Euro from Western Euro he has, of course, to do exactly what you said. It's not an "overfit" then but the display of a particular aspect of the reality while loads of other aspects are not displayed, at least not in the same PCA.
4) All points in dimensional space are treated equally, with no method to mitigate lower SNP count VS higher SNP count (see 1).
Yes, there is then instead refrained from using kits with a too low SNP count. I understand well what is the intention of imputation and that might be meaningful before skipping an otherwise maybe important kit. But scientifically it gives some headache to "pollute" sequenced data with additional guesswork (imputation). However, in fact this is no problem specific to G25 because you can impute a low SNP count kit first (they do it at MyHeritage and they did it at DNA.Land) and then calculate the G25 coords.
5) Scaling of data with no penalisation, creating artificial entities.
I've not yet fully grasped that scaling and also not how the eigenvalues for the various dimensions are determined but actually the scaled coords are only an additional offer. You can also use the unscaled coords. Although I must say that they in my experiments did not yield convincing results.
Just to make it clear: Nothing of what I say means to reject qpAdm runs. I can not assess them and the only thing I know of them are their pretty rough results compared to other findings.
But we did not come from any statement that qpAdm is useless but that G25 is (figuratively) and this I can state that it is for sure not. In a Vahaduo run all 25 dimensions are calculated and the various results of people, Germans f. i. become so specific that I even can predict approximately from where in Germany they hail (if they just hail from one area). These predictions can easily be verfied or falsified due to the known ancestry of testees. I've a lot of testees with genealogically well known ancestry which means that there can be permanently cross-checked for plausibility. I've never heard of any such fine scale performance by qpAdm runs. The mentioned performance of G25 (also by K36 btw.) is a verified experience.

I'm not sure but you may be right. Davidski once told me this:
"Here are the eigenvalues for the 25 dimensions. That is, the amount of diversity that each dimension packs.
129.557
103.13
14.222
10.433
9.471

1.605
1.58
1.564
1.557
1.529
1.519
1.452
1.434
As you can see, the eigenvalues start to plateau at around 1.5 very quickly. In fact, much of the diversity is in the first few dimensions.
So in order to keep increasing the power of the test, I would need to keep adding many more dimensions, and even then, the gain would not be significant enough to be noticeable in most models.
Also, the problem with trying to squeeze out more power is that the length of time that it takes to run the test increases with each added dimension, so much so that to run a G100 it would take me several hours.
This makes the impression that the dimensions and their eigenvalues are the result of a calculation that he can just accept. On the other hand I heard that a particular dimension represents the Yamnaya component which in turn would imply that he does decide what are the components ( = dimensions) like in a GEDmatch calculator.

My understanding is that the algorithm found that component, and Davidski determined that "Yamnaya" was a good label. Which is expected and desirable, if the algorithm is indeed finding "real" components.
I believe this is exactly what's going on with the GEDmatch calculators too, like K36. The "Baltic" component was found by an algorithm, but labeled "Baltic" by the creator, because they felt that was the most accurate description.
However (and I think it was Davidski who explained this), because of the "calculator effect", these labels must be taken with a grain of salt or ignored entirely, and attention paid only to comparisons between actual genomes.

Lucas told that the K36 components were taken pretty quick and dirty and "Italian" is based on samples from Bergamo and one more town iirc. So these were not "found" by a calculator but simply determined. In fact it's irrelevant if they represent anything real or not because everything is anyhow then just compared mathematically. If it's labelled "Italian" or not labelled at all like a G25 component makes no difference.

It appears to have different meanings depending on the person.
https://t4.ftcdn.net/jpg/01/83/51/83/240_F_183518354_NEp8pEGu9nPIxW0WHsCxF5NqN60u24yG.j pg
The best defition of hazel is just "mixed color", then there is light hazel and dark hazel. Light hazel is mainly blue and/or green while dark hazel is mostly green and/or amber. Then aside from that is also the pattern of the colors, whether they are centralized, scattered, or otherwise. However, someone with light hazel eyes that are mainly blue would describe their eyes as blue to distinguish from the ambiguity of the term hazel, while someone with dark hazel eyes might describe their eyes as amber to distinguish from the popular assumption that hazel eyes are mostly greenish blue. It is not really a helpful word other than to describe that one's eye's are more than one color.

Most people seem to think all blue eyes look exactly the same but I don't think that is true.
Before I got interested in physical anthropology I wasn't aware of the variation in blue eye color. Now, I find there are big differences between blue with yellow central ring, pure vivid blue, and grey.

..
What are you talking about. Hazel is from the hazel nut. Hazel it is not blue. It's a greenish brown color.

Uh yeah lol I'm obviously talking about how it's functional definiton acts based on how people use it. The color of hazelnut is obvious, thus I was obviously speaking on the colloquial use of the term.

It's amazing the variance in eye colour when looking at all the people who posted. It's not just a simple blue, green, brown and grey. Many people have mixed eye colour also.

Is anyone here able to guesstimate the eye color of my fourth great uncle? Picture is taken roughly in 1849 if that somehow helps to determine.

That AI coloring looks worse than what MyHeritage does. Also I don't think he would've had pinkish skintone since he was Romani.

He looks very Romani except the eye color but that makes him very unique and striking, the romani appearance with those very light eyes. I think the eyes are very light maybe blue or grey or blue-gray or blue-green definitely lighter then hazel and typical green (i mean when i speak of typical green i speak of darker eyes which look like leaves in autumn, such eyes)...

How common is this among the southern Roma who are darker?
