How would you classify Gad Elbaz and where do you think he passes? He is of Moroccan Jewish descent.

According to Sikeliot he simply a Sicilian without any Northern or external European admixture genetically.

But joking aside i think in this case he passes indeed well in Sicily.

He can also pass as Greek but more in the Eastern Aegean side of Greece.

Some sort of Med type

Elbaz is a very common Andalucian Jewish surname (all went to Morocco/Algeria after the expulsion). He looks Sicilian/South Italian. I can't really see him passing in Spain, but maybe he could actually pass in parts of Greece.

Bump. Any more thoughts? I think East Med & Alpine as well. I would likely guess him as Greek islander or something if I didn't know what he was. He doesn't strike me as being typical for any part of Italy, including Sicily and S. Italy, but I'd be hard-pressed to say he can't pass in Italy at all.

He can pass in many places in the Med region - Greece, Turkey, Albania, Sardinia, Iberia and even in Lebanon to an extent. Would not be so out of place in Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania and Macedonia as well, IMO. May remotely pass as Assyrian and Kurdish, but I wouldn't count on it.

Can't see him passing as an ethnic North African though.

East-Med + Alpine. Pass in Levant.

Agreed. Nothing unusual about him passing in the Levant or the middle east in general.

He passes well as southern Italian, Sicilian, Cretan, and Cypriot.

Alpine-Med, minor Armenoid?
