Caltanissetta is one of the more Near Eastern/North African parts of Sicily, while Ragusa is one of the least (except for some border towns probably with other provinces). To me these people look like a very neutral Greek look, similar to Maniots/southern Peloponnese. They don't look as Near Eastern like other Sicilians or Aegean islanders, they don't look Balkan, just SE European.

I definitely think they look more Greek or Albanian than Spanish, but Spain is a better fit than most other choices.

They'd fit best in the rest of Italy followed by Greece and Spain. They don't pass in North Africa, Levant, Iran, Caucasus, or Latin America (bar Argentina, Uruguay and South Brazil)

I still go with that they look very much Greek and Italic and do not show much MENA for a Sicilian set (southeast Sicily has less).

Best fit IMO is elsewhere in Italy, then Greece, then probably Iberia (distant 3rd). Certainly do not look Levantine, Iranian, or Caucasian (North or South) as a group.

I agree with you. As a group they really look foreign. Any Iberian/South Italian/Albanian group looks foreign for Greece. Maybe we share genetic similarities but the overall phenotype/vibe is just different.
Of course individually many would pass.

Probably South Italians are the closest looking people to Greeks and maybe this group of them looks closer to Greeks than to Iberians (you know that better than me)

I am talking about locals and not Pontic Greeks witch we are pure West asians.

They look more Peloponnesian than MOST Sicilians do (and less Semitic/Levantine than some other parts of Sicily). Obviously Greeks would know best if they look fully Greek but I think for Sicily it's as close as a group would get.

Indeed but Peloponnesus has some slavic influence since Byzantium ages.

Some of these guys can pass for local greeks but there are some who look clearly nongreek.

But the majority for me looking very med.
Also they never come very close with turks at the Ottoman Empire.

There was a study that compared Sicily and south Italy to Euboea to find evidence of ancient Greek DNA and in the y-dna they found the strongest signal of it in southeast Sicily, which is where Ragusa is.

I would say Crete and Cyprus.I agree with this. My mum who is from Crete calls Sicilians and Cypriots her kin.
