He's a Lebanese Shia originally from a small village in Jabal Amel region of Southern Lebanon, close to the border with Palestine. Interestingly, he seems to have both higher European (including West Med) and Caucasian/Mesopotamian than average, a trend that due to historical reasons I thought would only be common among Sunnis.

Higher Atlantic + North Sea than average is the Norman ancestry.
Do you have their gedmatch ID? I want to run them through a few calculators. If you could message it to me I'd appreciate that.
Lebanese seem to be the quintessential ''East-Med'' population.
Distance of 8,4 to Assyrians is not that big tbh. Must be due to heavy mixing with Syrians and Iraqis.
Impressive is how there's no European population in their top 20 results despite the supposed ''Norman'' shift.

Because most Europeans don't want to breed with Muslims.

I like it how their Atlantic and North Sea is the first thing Sikeliot noted, while in the case of S.Italians he always ignores these components and always concentrates on their minor ”red sea”

I notice what is out of character. For a Lebanese, the North/West European is out of character, for a Sicilian it is higher than average East Med (I usually only point out if it is 7%+ since that is high for any European population).
Why point out on what is typical, when what is different is more interesting and noteworthy?

The East Med is not out of character, it is a common component in Greeks and Albanians and in fact in Balkan populations.

Atlantic is mostly a neolithic component.
Well yes but if the question is, is this person closer to Europeans than people who have no European ancestry whatsoever, most likely yes.
Sure. Genetics is transitional, Levantines (Turks and coastal NAs too) belong to a transitional area, so they will be similar to some Europeans from borderline regions.

Arabian Gulf and some Ethiopian-like DNA, most likely.

I think in some calculators you could get Sicilian/Maltese/Ashkenazim in this person's top 20. But it depends on if there are a lot of populations with smaller distances crowding out the top 20 which is the case above.

A population in the 20th place hardly is very similar. Iberians get West Germans and Dutch in their top 20s and everyone knows they aren't similar at all.
After Chechen and Mbtid now you are Kurdish and ”Orthodox”. Are you trying to make a mockery of Orthodox and possibly Greeks since Kurds are Muslims? At least switch it to Latin or Catholic or Sicilian Kurd.

Calm down, Raine. I'm not trying to swarthify Greeks. There are many Orthodox ethnicities in the world, don't you know?
