Kind of a yes and no but more a yes. Its not different in that its the same haplogroup with general ancestor. It is different in that, the asterisk * represents basal haplogroup and negative for downstream mutations that are known. Whereas, being positive without the asterisk, usually means you belong to a further downstream subclade.
In my case, I am L1029*. I am negative for all the downstream mutations known to date. Which means I share a common ancestor as far back as 2300 years with all L1029's. However, I and a recently confirmed match(also another Albanian), we likely form a founder effect and our own subbranch under L1029. My novels are being tested to confirm out specific TMRCA.

When it has an asterisks it means your Ydna is a new subclade of that haplogroup thats just been discovered.
They need to update the tree and it will give your clade a new designation

J2a1b* is the Y-DNA of one of my ancestors on my mother's side. My Y-DNA is I1a2a.

The asteriks means that you either belong to a basal clade that is negative for downstreams or that you form your own clade
