View Full Version : Turkey as an EU Member

What do you think about Turkey becoming an EU member? Why?

I was listening to a story about this on American Public Radio this morning. It just pisses me off that Turkey is even being considered. Mainly because of their swing towards becoming a religious theocracy (Muslim) of late. My opinion, Turkey is not a European country and should not even be considered. Simple as that. I won't go into the "Muslim question". Too obvious.

I have a feeling my American perspective may differ from my fellow friends and comrades here but let's have a look.

Are you kidding? I think that's not even a question for every self-conscious European.

Sorry Absinthe, I am a bit naive on many things. Interesting, with your quick answer and opinion, why is Turkey being considered? Why isn't there an outcry in Europe aginst it?

No way, it shouldn't even be considered! What's next, Marocco :rolleyes2::mad:?

I don't know the exact motives behind Turkey's consideration of entrance.

I am guessing an economic/geopolitical alliance to make Europe greater in numbers against world U.S.A., Russia and China?

However, there is nothing good that can come out of it.

The moment it happens, Europe becomes Turkey. There is no stopping to the influx of immigrants.

It's not a fear, it's mathematics...

Free entrance, job opportunities and financial benefits for the Turkish in Europe? Who'd wanna stay in Turkey? (Would you, if you were turkish? :D)

Turkey can join. On one condition:

'Remove all of the Turks within Turkey,
and repopulate the land with Europeans.'

It's an obvious question. They are culturally and racially different from us, and they've been common enemies to pretty much every European nation for centuries. And there is an outcry, just that it is silent. The politicians are politically correct, and the politicians are the ones that get to decide. Not the people.

Yep, it's not just ultra right wing types that are against it, the majority in just about every country don't want it, the Greeks would lose their minds if it happened, and it's generally accepted that the EU is just playing games with Turkey and will probably never let them in.

The organised crime explosion following the accession of Bulgaria and co was bad enough, with Turkey it would be horrific. Also I believe their population would put them above the UK and below Germany making them the second largest country in Europe, and we'd have to subsidise them up to the hilt, which isn't so bad when you're dealing with a poor nation of a couple of million, but 70?

I'm fairly sure we'll just keep making more and more extravagant demands until they give up, e.g "we want Constantinople back"

Turkey should never be allowed in the European Union, ever. Not "only" are there the absolutely fatal and gruesome repercussions of opening the flood gates upon European lands, but people should not forget so easily the Turkish genocide upon the Greek people, and the havoc they spread all around nearly every eastern Europe nation not so long ago. Funny how no one wants to forget the holocaust and how that's constantly thrown in the face of every proud European every chance possible, yet a genocide upon ethnic Europeans is forgotten so easily. It would be a crime and disgrace against all those of European blood in every way possible.

Even though Turkey is a secular country with modern values, thanks to Kemal Ataturk, their historical roots are still with Islam. The current resurgence of Islamic pride is proof of this. Obviously, Turkey is not a uniform Islamic country like most of those in the Middle East. Many Turks identify more with European culture. But as a mass and in general, Turkey is not compatible with Europe and carries too much of a danger in terms of demographics. If allowed into the EU, it will become powerful on the European diplomatic stage because of its population size.

I don't think that Turkey's bid for entrance into th EU is anything more than a play to begin reacquiring their old empire on European lands..

In the long run it will not matter, the EU may not survive the current economic crisis. (http://www.lewrockwell.com/north/north689.html) Globalism & the movement towards a one-world common market/governemnt will probably be the main casualties of the next decade of turmoil. Which will mean a return to the bad old days of border control & the restricted movement of goods & people.:)

What do you think about Turkey becoming an EU member? Why?
I believe the EU should of been left at its original core membership of Industrial Northern Europe, that is Scandinavia, Britain and Ireland, Germany and Holland. Expansion into Eastern and Southern Europe has brought the added danger of periphery nations such as Turkey and Morocco (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/699760.stm) demanding EU membership.

The admission of France into the EU brought in trouble here is an example of the problems.

EU wary of French initiative; Mediterranean Union proposal seen as threat (http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-176568136.html)
NICOSIA, Cyprus - The French vision of an economic linkage of the 16 countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea is running into fierce resistance from other EU nations and potential participants.

Criticism of the idea introduced with considerable panache by French President Nicolas Sarkozy has divided members of the European Union, some of whom see the proposed plan favoring the former French colonies in the area - at the EU's expense.

The plan would bring together in one forum such varied nations as France and Italy in Europe with Turkey and Egypt in the Middle East and Algeria, Tunisia and Libya in North Africa.
That plan would see Europe consumed with Arabs in a matter of months. It would be far better to have a united Industrial/financial North Europe Union.

Now, as I hate the EU, and I hate Islam, and pretty much everything that has with humans to do, this, as an single matter, this is herecy! First of all, not all of Turkey is in Europe, and even though I don't care about religion in this matter, this gotta be a jews work. We all know they're might be small in numbers, but they're great in brains and using the Holohoax exuse.

No, there should be no Turkey in EU, ever! There should neither be an EU, they work together with USA and, well, guess who runs USA.

Hmmmmm, perhaps we could form a legion and kick some non-European asses. With opinions such as ours, we obviously are one in thought. Shame we could not all get together once a year and raise some hell in front of the EU parliament. Or better yet, we could run around Amsterdam with signs saying "Behead those who insult Europeans!!" General KCV.......has a good ring to it, no?

Anyway, thanks everyone for the awesome response and comments to this thread. Really enlightening!!

It could have been a serious idea some time ago, now it's just laughable. Turkey is slipping further and further away from Europe.
