Jelling stones defaced by graffiti

Unknown perpetrators have with green spray paint written on the historical rune stones.


The large Jelling stone was Friday night desecrated by green spray paint, when unknown perpetrators wrote the word "Gelwane" or "Gelwan E" across that the Danish monument.

The stone, as Harald Bluetooth erected around year 965, is not damaged beyond the paint on the surface, but it can, according to the chairman of Jelling Church, Gunni Højvang also be serious enough.

Against Vejle County Folkebladet he calls the vandalism "a disaster" and fears that the paint can be penetrated into the historic stone.

The police have received notification, in addition to the graffiti on the Jelling stone also counts scattered graffiti vandalism around the cemetery near the ancient memory.

- This suggests that it is someone who has not known that it was Jelling stone, it went beyond, but we do not know anything for sure yet, "said guard manager at South Jutland Police.

Both stones are considered as Denmark's birth certificate as Denmark is mentioned for the first time inside the country's borders. The small is from 955 and the big from 965.

I don't care whether an arsehole shoots 10 people in the street. Life imprisonment in a mental hospital will do (getting your arse banged 6 times a day by your cell-mates) but it you deface the cultural heritage of a people then it is time for short shrift.
