If you get less than 0.1% SSA on a DNA test, is thus usually real? What about a larger total like 0.3%? I'd assume anything 0.5% or higher would almost always be real. Is this correct?

Yeah.
It's real, especially if it is SSA as it is incredibly difficult to wash away.

The one drop rule is widely accepted among the scientific community.

I'm asking this because there was an Albanian test on here that got <0.1% SSA. I was rather intrigued by the idea of a European having SSA.
I didn't get SSA in an ancestry test myself, if that's what anybody's wondering. In fact, I've never actually done an ancestry test.
<0.1% SSA is definitely not real.

1%+ is what can usually be taken seriously
There is a white American woman on another forum, she got 0.7% SSA on 23andme, but on GM calculators she gets less than that, pretty much at a noise level. So go figure.
what is the rule across all testing 1%?

I dont believe in "noise". 23andme told me I'm 99.9% Euro with <0.1% Oceanian and I believe them. <0.1% SSA isnt really unheard of for albanians or any other Balkan country for that matter anyway.

Noise... <~1% I think is noise.

Depends on the calculator, at high K probably anything higher than 0.2 is real/recent, at low K less so.

Anything under 1% should not be taken seriously
On some (actually many) calculators even 1+ percent may mean nothing. I've seen Russians and other Eastern and Central Europeans scoring 1 or more % African and Oceanian. I myself get over 2% Red Sea on K13 and about the same amount of Amerindian which is obviously not to be taken seriously. I don't have a drop of actual Middle Eastern and native American blood. Those calculators are full of inaccuracies which still doesn't mean they are useless.
