She is 0.7% South Asian on 23andme.

How could this be? Is it likely she has an actual Indian ancestor?

She is British and Irish American.

A DNA test taken by the show Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (2014) stated that Sally’s genetic ancestry is:

*99.2% European
*0.7% South Asian (from India)
*0.1% Native American

My question is not whether or not she looks like 1% South Asian, but how it could have made its way into her ancestry.

Could be a really distant Indian ancestor who came from Britain. After all, the British Isles had links with the Indians, and the region always had a lot of Indian immigrants.

I'd classify her as Atlantid and Alpine.

Maybe one of her ancestors married an Indian during the British empire and then migrated back and assimilated

0.7% is trace. I mean I've seen Irish people get trace Amerindian in their results. It's just so small and if she got a parent tested it could disappear. She looks quite Irish / British to me. I know an Irish girl who looks like her younger picture.
