In cooperation with the U.S., the government of Latvia plans to establish a military industrial complex in Latvia, according to the action plan that the government passed yesterday. (http://www.baltic-course.com/eng/markets_and_companies/?doc=37371)

The document expresses the government's resolve to improve the integration of Latvian scientists and manufacturers in NATO's scientific and industrial complex.

The government also undertakes to involve the representatives of Latvian scientific institutions in the NATO Research and Technology Organization and set up a research and technology development program for Latvia's military needs.

The government also resolves to facilitate the participation of Latvian companies in NATO and the European Unions defense procurements by creating a catalogue of Latvian defense industry companies.

The government also plans to support the participation of Latvian companies in NATO's military industry deliveries, by organizing the conference for Latvian manufacturers and international military industry companies on the NATO industrial complex integration possibilities.

So.. they are selling out ? Out of sheer desperation they invite the biggest party of the mess (in conjunction with the banks) to set up shop in "cheap" Latvia.

I think its good for those Latvian scientists and engineers.
There is no market for them in Latvia and the government gives almost no support.
