Sigita Pildava revealed to the press that „a few persons were involved in a conflict, resulting in fatal wounding of one man”. The victim died of wounds shortly afterwards; the police arrested the person involved in the shooting.

According to eyewitnesses, many visitors even did not understand what was going on after the first of allegedly three shots as the people were going to leave the hall at the last minute of the movie, The Black Swan. At first the shooter reportedly even did not try to flee, he attempted to get away only when the guards arrived.

One eyewitness was quoted by online media as saying that one of the men involved had been disturbing other viewers all the time by rustling his pack of popcorn and loud crunching. The man, who was shot later, had been sitting two rows below the shooter. Contrary to the first reports, it was the popcorn eater who reportedly belonged to the so-called ‘new rich’ – mostly non-Latvians - judging from his behavior, manners and clothing and was shot several times by the younger man.

The victim was a 42 years old man, accompanied by his daughter, and the shooter appeared to be a 27 years old male, a graduate of Latvian Police Academy, who was possessing his weapon legally, as police spokeswoman confirmed on Sunday morning.

An eyewitness told the online paper ‘Kas Jauns’ that the man with the gun (a Glock pistol, according to bystanders) had called the paramedics himself and only then was overpowered by the guards...You never know whether you'll return home from your nearby cinema...
