Google on Saturday changed its logo to celebrate 135 years since the birth of Constantin Brancusi, the new logo consisting of works by the famous sculptor., such as "Miss Pogany" and "The Kiss." Such personalization has already become a tradition with the giant search engine, which thus tries to get users' attention to great personalities that had significant contribution to the development of science, knowledge and arts.

Thus, besides Miss Pogany and The Kiss, the Google logo also includes images of the works: "Muse sleeping in bronze," "Bird in Space," "New-born," "Prometheus" and "Leda."

Brancusi (born February 19, 1876, at Hobita, Gorj County, dead on March 16, 1957, Paris) was a Romanian sculptor who had a major contribution to renewal of vision and language in contemporary sculpture. A spearhead of the modern artistic movement, Brancusi is considered one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. His sculptures are unique through elegance of shape and sensitive use of materials. The verticality, horizontality, weight, density and importance to light and space are the typical traits of Brancusi's creation. His work had a profound influence on the modern concept of shape in sculpture, painting and drawing.

Saturday marked 135 years since the birth of Constantin Brancusi, one of the first-rank figures of Romanian culture of universal value. His sculptures, celebrated across the world and appraised at dozens of millions dollars, are instantly recognizable through their elegant shape and the refined use of materials. To pay homage to the great sculptor’s personality and his vast cultural heritage several dozens of writers, students, teachers and political figures formed a symbolic human circle, on Saturday, in front of Bucharest’s Romanian Athenaeum. The “Constantin Brancusi” circle was an endeavour initiated by Laurian Stanchescu, a member of the Writers’ Guild. Only about 40 people attended the manifestation, Mediafax reports. The group who came to celebrate Constantin Brancusi included Liberal MP Varujan Vosganian, first deputy chair of the Writers’ Guild. People were sporting banners saying things like: “Culture, the heart of a people”, “Culture, the weapon which does not kill”, “Following in Brancusi’s footsteps”, “Culture, a hope for mankind”, “Without culture one does not exist” and “We only live through culture”.

Not all of it is rubbish. A lot of it is but a lot also depends on where the work stands. If you place a modernist statue in a modern garden or park it takes on a whole new meaning. If you place it in some gallery it has no style and is dead and ugly.

Take this for example:

Place this over a modernist pond and it creates a story.

Classicism, romanticism, realism... That is art! This? This is anti-art, just a mockery of art.

Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect.

The only effect this has on me is to close my eyes and turn my head away...
