"Great Britain" seems to be a SE England based cluster, while "Irish" is likely not actual Irish DNA but is pre-Saxon ancestry in England. Scandinavian, Western European, etc. are also not always to be taken literally.

Yes. But if you see, the Irish component increases as you get away from southeast England.

1. I'm partially Pennsylvania Dutch, so I want to prove that Germans and Anglos are closely related, so that I can feel like a true Anglo-American. Also, socially in America PA Dutch are closer to English-Americans than Irish-Americans are to either.

2. I'm partially Irish, and I want to prove that British were a malignant occupying force that had nothing to do with Irish people.

I'm aware you're not really serious but you have to look at genetics objectively and not have agendas like above. Leave the politics and old world prejudices aside. People are always going to be a lot closer culturally and genetically to their neighbours anyway.

But PA Dutch are closer to other Colonial Americans, most of whom are English, than they are to Irish, who are Catholic immigrants from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Are the distinctions between Britain and Ireland even reliable on Ancestry? I've seen too many people who clam British ancestry that got high Irish and people who claim Irish ancestry that scored high British so it seems to me like they confuse them all the time. But I guess it's inevitable for populations who are really close to each other.

But the POtBI study did not give a % for native British DNA so it was not as useful as it could have been.
