RIGA - Latvian intellectuals name writer Anna Zigure, University of Latvia Rector Marcis Auzins and European Court of Justice Judge Egils Levits as the most suitable presidential candidates for this year’s new presidential appointment, reports news agency LETA.

This makes me wonder. Does Latvia elect president or is it appointed in some way. Since later in this article an election law is mentioned.

The All for Latvia!-For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK (VL-TB/LNNK) party has not yet named a possible candidate for president, but it feels that Zatlers should be replaced with someone who can “revive the Latvian spirit.”

And what is the nature of this party? The name suggest that is a nationalist one. But it could of course be something different.

It is actually a coalition between nationalist All For Latvia! and the more mainstream national conservative For Fatherland and Freedom party. From what I've gather, All For Latvia! is a genuine nationalist party.

Nice to see that you know this. :thumb001:
I know few people from this party.
Indeed, they are the genuine nationalists, most of them are young and educated people opposite to TB/LNNK which are people from 2nd National awaking in late 1980s and early 1990s. Since 1990s they have had places in parliament but have done nothing so far.

Unfortunately the president is chosen by parliament.
Almost nobody likes current president.
Mostly its because he has no spine. He doesn't stands for will of people and how to say, is not this and not that. Hope you get my thought.
