An up-and-coming area in Jerusalem where embassies will be located could be named after President Donald Trump.
Construction Minister Yoav Gallant made the suggestion when he asked key staffers to start scouting locations for the new grouping of foreign embassies coming to the Israeli capital, The Jerusalem Post reported.
“There is an apparent pattern of embassies moving to Jerusalem, and we have to start getting ready now,” Gallant told the newspaper. “We might have to build dozens of embassies, and we would need new land ready for that purpose. I asked my ministry to vigorously take action as fast as possible.”
Gallant suggested a few names for the quarter, including “Embassy Town,” but eventually suggested naming the area “Trump Town” in honor of Trump and his decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The construction minister said he wanted to make the space “attractive for countries to move there.”
City council member Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, leader of the Yerushalmim Party, said she's “thrilled” the decision to relocate the U.S. embassy “has been the catalyst to other countries to finally recognize the reality that Jerusalem is and always will be the capital of Israel.”
“On a practical level,” she continued, “I am proud to have been part of the decision this week in the finance committee of the city to approve the construction needed on a road in Arnona for the embassy to move very soon.”
