Are Slavic names popular in BG? They are not very xommon here.
If you mean first names ending in -slav they are present but most common ones are Dimitar, Georgi, Ivan, Petar, Stefan.
The -slav (for males) and -slava (respectively for females) endings are related to old Bulgarian word ''slava" meaning ''glory".
The following names ending in -slav/slava I can now think of:
- Stanislav/Stanislava
- Svetoslav/Svetoslava
- Desislava (only a female form exists)
- Radoslav/Radoslava
- Borislav/Borislava
- Branislav/Branislava (these are rare)
- Vencislav/Vencislava
- Velislav/Velislava
- Blagoslav/Blagoslava (the female form is more common)
- Vladislav/Vladislava
Most of these deal with acquiring, defending and fighting for glory or mean things such as ''bright glory", as is the case with Svetoslav/a.
Edited: Among females most common names are Anna/Ana (less common versions are Ani, Anika and Ann), Maria, Gergana, Petya, etc. The Anna-Maria variant is also present.
