Police and children's services in 27 areas in England are taking part in Operation Staysafe over the weekend, targeting youngsters who were drunk, taking drugs, out late with nowhere to stay or behaving badly.

On Friday night more than 1,000 young people were spoken to by the Staysafe teams, according to the figures released by the Home Office.

Of those, 120 were returned to their homes while 103 referrals were made to other services including family support teams, parenting programmes and alcohol awareness projects.

If only those "parenting programs" would be any good all they seem to do when you read the aims, is teach the rights of children, not much use in this situation.

I think this is too little too late, but maybe it's better than nothing.

It's high time a curfew was implemented nationwide.
18, and under, should be off the streets before 9 O'clock.

That seems rather extreme. What if they are working a job that lets out at 1 am? Or even just hanging out with friends, or coming back from a friend's house? A better idea would be to take the ones actually engaged in underage drinking or drug use and throw them in lockup for the weekend, then make them do community service.

Then they can easily show the relevant information to the enquiring officer.

Curfew was 9 O'clock. They should stay the night or face the consequences.

So that would be everyone? :)
