Those are Romanized-Hellenized Egyptians, those portraits were painted on the sarcophagi / mummies found in the oasis of Fayum.

Those are descendants from mixed Roman and North African parents. That's why they have dinaric influence but as mens-sarda said they are not true Romans.

They're not Romans as in those from Italy. They're ethnic Egyptians, and they don't look like Europeans either. Mostly east-meds and Aegyptids.

They mixed with Greeks mostly, not with Romans. Anyway most of them were just Egyptians.

Indeed. The people today that lay claim to these people are the modern day Copts(not saying that their Muslim counterparts don't. I'm just talking about the culture), and they cluster the closest to Palestinians and Jordanians as well as with Arabians, Yemenite Jews and Mizrahi Jews as well.

This just seems obvious to me. Totally off topic but I am watching Egyptian belly dancing right now and it is such a beautiful art form. Deserves a thread if one has not been made yet!

I've always found the Fayyum Mummy portraits fascinating. Not so much from an anthropological perspective as an artistic one.
