This person's results are very atypical.. I have never seen anything remotely similar among the Dodecanese islanders I have GEDmatch results for. Could you demonstrate how you know this person is Dodecanese and not mixed with something else?

Looks like they are Cypriot to me, not sure I would believe the result is that of a Dodecanese.

1. More Levant-shifted than an average Cypriot when literally no Dodecanese islander I've ever seen is like this (see others here: https://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?244275-Dodecanese-Greek-GEDmatch-results!&p=5132512#post5132512)

2. Closer to Assyrians than to southern Italians, this makes no sense whatsoever.

3. Geography. Why would Karpathians be so outlying if they are more outlying than the other Dodecanese who are geographically closer to Turkey and the Levant?

But that would imply all Greek islanders were once like this, and I highly doubt that was true.

I honestly do not believe the originally posted result is that of a Dodecanese person. See the link I posted and you can see people from all the other islands, and they are not like this.

That could be my guess. I am just trying to mention that this person is outlying, I have never seen anything else like it. I would even go so far as to assume recent Cypriot ancestry, but I do not think this person's ancestors were all in Karpathos in the 1800s.

They look like mixed Latin American, or Turkish.

maybe the variable is a minute Rhodian element. The subject's paternal grandmother was born in Lindos Rhodes. The surname seems to be a hellenized version of a Turkic endonym, which also appears to be popular as a surname in Cyprus as well.

Can this solely account for the irregular eastern affinity? Maybe the Turkish or Sephardic influence on the island is showing?

My guess is Cappadoccian or Pontic Greek. I have seen some Pontic surnames from Karpathos (-idis surnames). I change my mind about this person being part Cypriot.

I agree with you. Clearly he has Anatolian ancestors but on the other hand he has East Asian/Siberian components. Thats why I guess he has a Turkish ancestor.

Yes. It would make more sense to me. If all Dodecanese plotted like this I would think they could be native, but they don't.

would you say this look is a neolithic one and that the significant west asian component is of that indigenous origin, or do they come off to you as arabized like the Cypriots they plot as?
