Legia Warsaw win Polish league title after Lech Poznan clash is abandoned as home fans launch flares onto pitch before being chased away by 200 policemen wearing riot gear. Legia Warsaw were crowned the Polish champions on Sunday evening. Their match at Lech Poznan was abandoned after the 77th minute of the game. Lech supporters threw flares spewing out dark smoke on to the pitch. Riot police were required to control fans and chase them away from the ground. Legia Warsaw won the Polish championship for the 13th time in the club's history on Sunday after they were granted a 3-0 walkover against Lech Poznan whose supporters threw flares and invaded the pitch. Referee Daniel Stefanski stopped the match in the 77th minute after Lech supporters threw flares spewing out dark smoke on to the pitch. Legia were leading 2-0 after goals from Domagoj Antolic and Michal Kucharczyk. After Kucharczyk's goal, several dozen Lech supporters invaded the pitch and were chased away by some 200 policemen in riot gear. The Polish Ekstraklasa league commission decided later to grant Legia a 3-0 walkover against Lech, who said they would not appeal. 'As a result of this decision Legia has 70 points and has secured the title of the Polish champions. Lech Poznan has 60 points and the third place on the podium,' the Ekstraklasa commission said in a statement. Lech spokesman Lukasz Borowicz told state news agency PAP that the club were expecting 'serious consequences' after the trouble. (...)
