The Macedonian and Thessalian Greeks show obvious Slavic input; the Peloponnesians less so. Some of the Peloponnesians are closer to Italy, others to Balkans.

Observations:

1) Most of the native Macedonian Greeks are basically genetically identical to Bulgaria, even showing places like Poland, Hungary, and Austria in their top 20. On each I highlighted Bulgaria, Serbia, and Sicily on their Oracles for point of reference.. they are at great distance to Sicily, greater than that of Cypriots to Sicilians. I did not include the Pontians mixed into the Macedonian samples, as they are not natives. There is no shift toward the Levant nor West Asia.

2) Thessalians waiver between being closer to the Peloponnesian results (more Western mixture and being shifted toward Tuscany) and the Macedonians (more shifted toward Bulgaria), but all of these individuals minus one of them are closer to either Tuscans or to Bulgarians than to Sicily. There is no shift to the Levant or West Asia.

3) Central Greek cluster consists of a mixture of mainlanders and islanders and the results reflect this. Many of them are similar to North Aegean islands and Cyclades results (and while not as "south" as most Sicilians, are clearly within Sicilian variation -- some even have Lebanon in their top 20! -- and are more greatly removed from Bulgarians.

4) The Peloponnesians are more shifted toward Italy overall than to Bulgaria, but still north-shifted of the Sicilians. All of them have 10-25% shift toward NE Europe compared to Sicilians, but none are scoring Central-East Europeans outside of the Balkans in their top 20. Peloponnesians also have high (20%) West Med, which gives them a shift toward North Italy/Tuscany. One Peloponnesian (#6) might have Gypsy admixture, due to the high South Asian being scored. Basically they are like Sicilians/Cretans with more Steppe and less Near Eastern, and with few exceptions they do not score the Levant in their top 20.

Those results are similar to the Macedonian Greek results I have seen, actually. I have not seen many Thracians but those I have were similar.

Most other mainlanders I see match the Thessalian results most closely.

Peloponnesians are closer to south Italian but more "European" genetically/less Near Eastern.

Top three results for 80% of Greece is generally Greek + Central Greek.

North Greeks get a little more Romanian and Bulgarian which is construed as Thracian

South Greeks get a little more Sicilian and that's the only difference. Fact of the matter top three results are generally the same with variations of Abruzzo + Siciliy + Romania + Bulgaria + Tuscany + Ashkenazi

South Bulgarians are 45% Neolithic in YDNA and 20% in R1b, the differential ratio split of I1 + I2a + R1a does not match with North Greeks. The split is on opposite end of spectrum.

Not all the Greek Macedonian samples have those results though.

GreeceMaced1 is likely a Greek Pontic. GreeceMaced6 and GreeceMaced7 get "Central Greek" as first population on K13. GreeceMaced5 is missing on Gedmatch. While 4 out of 7 (or 8?) Greek Macedonian samples do get Bulgarian as first population but all at different distances: GreeceMaced2, GreeceMaced3, GreeceMaced4, GreeceMaced8.

There is no fucking way Grevena and Kavala people are exactly the same. Dig deeper.

Exactly, actual Greek speaking Macedonians from Chalkidiki and Grevena surely be different. People need to understand that there are still Slavophones in Greece and they are different from real Greek Macedonians.

Not all the Greek Macedonian samples have those results though.

GreeceMaced1 is likely a Greek Pontic. GreeceMaced6 and GreeceMaced7 get "Central Greek" as first population on K13. GreeceMaced5 is missing on Gedmatch. While 4 out of 7 Greek Macedonian samples do get Bulgarian as first population but all at different distances: GreeceMaced2, GreeceMaced3, GreeceMaced4, GreeceMaced8.

Its very unprofessional and dishonest of the researchers to include Pontic Greeks and other recent immigrants in the "Greek Macedonian" average. In order to get a good sense of what Greek Macedonians are really like, a good sample needs to be taken from an area such as Grevena, Chalkidiki, or other regions where only Greeks have historically lived.

Many academic samples are taken in this way, without great accuracy of who they are really sampling. Not just this. Unfortunately.

I excluded the ones who are Pontic or Anatolian Greek (the ones clustering with the Sicilians are probably Anatolian Greeks).

Unfortunately.Indeed, the 20 Greek samples that usually appear in studies are all from Athens and Thessaloniki, yet there is one of them that plots half way between Greece and Turkey (obvious Pontic Greek is obvious). Or the other study on y-dna that included "Northern Greek" samples from Nea Nikomedeia with 10% J1.

In that thread I published them without checking, but I think it's clear that some are outliers or even non-locals.
