The turnout in the previous parliamentary elections in 2007 exceeded 60 percent. This time, even more citizens are expected to cast their ballot.
"We had a record number of people participating in the preliminary voting," Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Committee Alo Heisalu told ETV. The total figure of eligible voters who cast their vote ahead of the general election day was nearly 250,000, an all-time high in the history of Estonian elections. 140,000 people voted electronically via internet, which is also the best result thus far, Heinsalu said.
Electronic voting began on February 24 and lasted till March 2. Early voters could also cast their ballot at polling stations from February 28.
