Plots closer to Siberians like Selkups and Kets than to central Asian Turks on the K15 plot. On the K36 similarity map the sample is only really similar to people from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and people from southern Siberia which counts Siberian Turks

Wrong

Hmmm... Radically different from Anatolians...

Where does the South Asian in Modern Turks come from? This sample is devoid of it.

I think this one will be an outlier. He has more East Asian than Siberian (which is not normal for Central Asians) and has O Y-DNA haplogroup. If other Ottomans were similar to this modern day Turks would score more East Asian than Siberian but this never usually the case. He probably had Northern Han great grandfather or something

He plots closer to Siberians than to Turks from central Asia although on K36 is most similar to Kazakhs. Yh Ydna O does suggest east Asian paternal origin possibly from China. I also would say that other Ottoman Turks were different than this sample

Uyghurs?

Yes could be. Modern day Uygurs are slightly more East Asian than Siberian (20% more or so) but I don't know about Uyghur samples from back then

Probably people like him interbred with Anatolian wogs and thus created the Turks of Turkey.

They certainly left something in the DNA of modern Turks. Some time ago I saw the GEDmatch results of a guy from Central Anatolia with an Asian percentage of 14.39%, but I'm not sure if all the Turks have something Asian in their DNA. The thing that I wonder is what the Anatolians were like before the Turks came. They were probably similar to modern Cypriots or a middle ground between Cypriots, Greeks and the southernmost plotting southern Italians with something Caucasian. Surely we need ancient DNA to know better.

Most Anatolian Turks have East Eurasian to varying degrees, but then you have areas like Trabzon where most of them don't have a drop of Central Asian blood.

Well, places to the east of Konya were pretty much like Assyrians and Armenians while the Black Sea coast was more like Pontic Greeks. This is how I imagine them to have been.

Ydna O is found in Turks like Uygurs, Kazakhs and Altaians at around 10% but it could very well be from east Asian input. Going by Ftdna sample most of the O in Turks from places like Kazakhstan is O2a2b with some O2a1c, O2a2b is mainly found among east Asians like Koreans, Chinese and Japanese whilst O2a1c is common in east Asian and south-east Asians

Exactly what I was thinking about, different percentages that can vary within the country from province to province.

His results are quite different than I expected. Most likely he was not an Anatolian Ottoman but a Mongol.

The Turks invaded Anatolia in 11th century. That guy was living in Anatolia after 300 years of the invasion and not mixed with native people. So werird! Ottomans defeated by Timurid army at Battle of Ankara in 1402. He might be one of Timurs soldiers.

No way, not even original Seljuks werent that high. There are samples being as low as 20% from 1200’s Asia Minor (18% present in modern Turkey).
Nice trolling thread though.

Interesting, there were Anatolian Turks almost 50% East Asian as late as the 16th century. Means the Turkish ethnogenesis happend later than that since most modern day Turks are less than 15-20% East Eurasian.

Wait, don't you and people like you want to associate yourselves with Mongoloid peoples? That medieval person was ACTUALLY Eurasian racially, unlike many modern Turks of Turkey (5-10% mong barely counts). I don't understand Turks.

It would be prudent to add sources and publications to which these kits are linked or extracted from. A few members posted allegedly Köktürk/Türk samples a while back which is not congruent with their burial practices. It is known that Türks and Yenisei Kirghiz burned their dead, unlike Xiongnu/Huns, old Uighurs/Oghuz who buried their dead in soil. Another point is that Sogdians were present in large numbers among various Turkic Khaganates of the ancient world. We need to be sure that samples are not mixed descendants of such peoples as well. That Karluk sample posted earlier is also to be questioned. Was he a nomad, semi-nomad, settled, or mixed descendent, etc? The burial itself would give much info, burial with horse or without, items, etc. These labeling Karluk, Oghuz, Seljuk, Ottoman is also wrong. What is meant by that? The era of dominance or exact belonging to the aforementioned groups.

Yes this is just a fragment of what Turks absorbed at some point.

Before Turks they should have still been similar to Anatolia_BA, so basically Early farmer + something more Caucasus, but the region surely has been a major cross road between continents in more recent time, it's expected to find an increasing amount of different influences there as time passed and cultures developped.

Yup. Seljuks and Mongols were fought at Kosedag in 1243. Mongols defeated Seljuks.

This sample must be an outlier and cannot be used as a proxy for Seljuq Turks. The sample score %0 South Asian while we compare the results of Turks with Anatolain Greeks and Armenians, we see that the Turkish migration had increased the South Asian component in Anatolia. Oghuz/Turcomans must have carried significant amount of South Asian component too.

Besides of it, this sample has no match on Gedmatch. I haven't seen anyone (Turks) even score some shared segments over 2cM which is extremely weird and unusual for a supposedly 16th century Turcoman sample in the middle of Turkey.
