Maghreb Jews

Anyone would have a theory why I have more similarities with Maghreb Jews, than Sephardic, when I'm Portuguese and the vast majority of my family originates from Portugal? I would expect that side of the family to be Sephardic, rather than Maghreb.

Would this be a case of Jews from Morocco, either expelled or exiled by the Almohads in 11th or 12th century to where Portugal sits today? Or something I'm missing? Gedmatch shows me always either Libyan, Algerian or Moroccan Jew, instead of Sephardic. This is no more of 20% of my admixture. The vast majority is European (celtic as most Portuguese are).

Maybe you have some Berber blood as well some Sephardic blood making it look like you are partially North African Jewish.
In any case Moroccan/Algerian Jews are very similar to Eastern Sephardim genetically (they are are mix of Sephardim and local "Berber Jews", but closer to Sephardim genetically). Libyan Jews are almost pure stock of Levantine with very little European and Berber blood. Tunisian Jews are in between.
