I've heard that Ukrainian gopniks were the main source of volunteers for battalions who repulsed Russian attacks in Donbass. They cause a lot of trouble in times of peace but they tend to be patriotic.

So such people can be useful in times of war.

Actually, the new Ukrainian authorities spreaded info that Janukovic used to hire this kind of people to fight against those "patriots".

Hi :)

'Pacan' is what this kind of people call each other. But it has a somewhat broader meaning I guess, so they also use "Pravilnyj pacan" (правильный пацан) to make it clear that this one behaves properly (by their idea of behaviour).
"Pacanchik" is a diminutive form of 'pacan'.

They tend to be called hillbillies.
Granted, there are lots of overlaps. Like, I lived in the Appalachia region around a lot of red necks and white trash (not the same), but you had to go deep into the hills to see hillbillies.
