Jumbo (the fat bald dude) is a german reporter nickname Jumbo, he went to Texas to try german food there. He said it has nothing to do with germany, it tastes good but it has nothing to do with germany. Not authentic german food.

Do they use rice as an ingredient in any German dish? I'm guessing no though I could be wrong.

it has nothing to do with germany.

Considering the amount of Literal Actual Germans who settled in Texas, I'd say that German food in America does have something to do with Germany.

And in Pennsylvania and the Midwest, Chicago, etc.

Frankfurters and Hamburgers have German names. And apple pie (Apfelkuchen).

Right. My wife's mother made German food at home all the time.

It's not like we have some cargo cult version of European traditions. Europeans came here with their traditions and they evolved/morphed here.

I always disliked sauerkraut.

A Philadelphia soft pretzel is always good though.
