I have found on other forum that Volga-Ural admixture (K36) is based on Chuvash population.

According to one theory, the Chuvash people may be descended from the Volga Bulgars.

It appears based on a multitude of matches she has with people of Volga German ancestry that one of our ancestors, likely before 1830ish, was out in the Volga. Question is if there was only one ancestor that is the source of these numbers and it was from the late 18th or early 19th century, how can it be so high?

Chuvash and Mordvins seem to be present in the area but perhaps not Mari, Udmurt, etc. as far as I know. So far through searching I've come across one Chuvash on Gedmatch she matches 13.0 cM and two Erzya, one at 9.0 cM and one at 8.7cM. Though it seems Chuvash/Mari have a much higher Volga-Ural component in K36 than Mordvins.

I don't know. You are only ~20% Russian/East Slavic which is less than one quarter. I doubt you'll ever know the exact percentage, at this point we can only speculate. I'm certain she wasn't a full Chuvash or Tatar, maybe partially but even that cannot be proven.
