Mother is English, father is Portuguese.
Does the surname Mendes change the racial perception the average North American have of him? Assuming a lot of North Americans associate Spanish-sounding surnames to Hispanics/Latinos.

True. Schools should make their kids to learn that we are not the same people, confuse Portugal with Spain is worst than confuse Austria with Germany since we are 800 years separated from other iberians and our history is also separated since this time. Brazil and Portugal are deeply lusitanic and not spanish culturally.
