SRY2627 aka R-m167 is most commonly found in Iberia (especially Catalonia), also found in south west France. There are small amounts found among Ukrainians and Swedes and Finnish people and it is found in Sicily and southern Italy. It is commonly assumed to have originated in modern Aragon about 5000 years ago. An interesting theory I read online is that it could be Gothic. This was meant to explain its spread. That its density in Spain is from the Visigoths, smaller amounts in Ukraine would be Ostrogothic. Im still inclined to thing its proto-Celtic but it is an interesting bit of speculation. Thoughts?

That is my haplogroup and I do not know the answer to that. I have read that it was associated with Iberian proto Celts and Celts.
Is this your haplogroup?

I can trace my paternal lineage to the 1600s in Baden Württemburg in present day Germany. So it existed in southern Germany in the 1600s. I don’t think it would be associated with the Goths. I think Gothic haplogroup would be more “Germanic” and less “Iberian”. Since the goths came from Germany to Spain (and not any region near Catalonia but rather in the north west of Spain).
I think that in my family’s case, the haplogroup spread from Celtic speaking Spain throughout Celtic speaking France and to Celtic speaking western and southern Germany, and it did so before the Goths spread west. Later on the people with R-M167 haplogroup would intermix with Latins and Germanics and would assimilate to French and German culture and language like many other people of Celtic heritage in those regains

Im inclined to agree. I personally believe its proto-celtic and I think the trace amounts found outside Iberia and France in places like Sweden or w.e are insignificant. Its overwhelmingly Spanish/French. Amounts found in areas of Germany bordering France is no surprise.
But I thought the Gothic theory was interesting.

Goths I would expect to be haplogroup I, whichever was scandinavian. R1b is found in Iberia, France, Ireland, Scotland in its highest concentrations, leading me to think it was/is connected to Celts

Exactly. My girlfriend has a last name that is associated with the Goths in Spain. I’ve been wanting to get her Dad a dna test so I can see which haplogroup he is.
They are quite Spanish genetically and I am pretty german/British genetically, so I think it would be ironic if he has a Germanic haplogroup like haplogroup I, while I have an Iberian haplogroup R-M167

I saw a theory online that it was Gothic. It made me curious about the origins
