It's really amazing, the similarity between different landscapes of the British Isles.
Much of Ireland reminds me of the sheep-grazed, grassy hills and valleys of much of Wales, Northern England and Southern Scotland, my type of country.

Ireland is a very beautiful country and not as crowded as the UK, although not as rugged and barren as Scotland either.
It is really a land of rolling green hills and sheep farming. It makes me think of the Pennines a lot.

If I don't forget I'll start a thread about the similarities of the landscapes.

Don't tell them but I have noticed it too. Maybe they should just rejoin the UK on their own terms since they are so bloody bankrupt. :D:coffee:

Ireland looks a lot like parts of Northern England, Southern Scotland or the West Coast of Wales.

The geology, landscapes, flora, fauna, weather, architecture and looks are all very similar.

Views of Cork, Ireland in spring 1902. This is a long film prepared for the Cork Exhibition of 1902. The last 3 minutes or so is from January 1902, it was shot in Wexford, Ireland. Added in sound for ambiance. This film is from the Mitchell and Kenyon collection

Amazing slice-of-life footage in Killarney, Ireland taken from May 14-17, 1929. I initially thought that this was in County Cork but a commenter has informed me that this is Killarney which is in the nearby County Kerry. These films were taken with the early Movietone sound cameras. Worked on footage and sound

Very Beautiful pictures, love the Celtic and Gaelic aesthetics, one hopes for the survival of such a culture and language! Us Anglos are a lil cheeky for trying to wipe it out.... it was just banter with our fellow beaker bad boys....I swear it. Regarless I am ashamed to say I have not visited such a Green and pleasant land, the other green and pleasant land.

Ringing with music from its rustic pubs and dotted with prehistoric forts, this region is something special. If you're to fall in love with Ireland, chances are it'll be right here. © 2002 Rick Steves' Europe

Glendalough (Gleann Dá Loch), meaning 'The Valley of the Two Lakes' is a glacial valley in County Wicklow, Ireland, renowned for an Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin. Situated in the Wicklow Mountains National Park and boasting some of Ireland's best mountain scenery with its deep moody lakes, rushing rivers and tumbling waterfalls, the Glendalough Valley is among the country's top tourist attractions offering incredible walking opportunities. From the 6th century monastic ruins with their iconic round tower near the Lower Lake, to the C19th lead mines at the 'Miners' Village' at the far end of the Upper Lake, Glendalough is a landscape replete with history and heritage. Autumn is one of the finest times to visit as the deciduous trees and bracken turn rich shades of russet, orange and yellow, and the deer rut (mating season) is at its height. Our circular route took us from the monastic site skirting the western side of the Lower Lake, past the shore of the Upper Lake and along the Miners' Road towards the zig-zag track up to Van Diemen's Land and the Glenealo Valley. From here we followed the boardwalk along the Spinc and the descent to the Poulanass Waterfall, before passing the eastern side of the Lower Lake along another boardwalk back to the monastic site.
Music tracks in this film are:

Ireland is a delight for the photographer and, despite the often overcast weather, we were not disappointed. From the numerous medieval castles that dot the landscape, to the many restored manor houses and lodgings, to the ancient ruins and sweeping landscape vistas, we kept the camera rolling the entire time. But perhaps the greatest treat of all was our interaction with the Irish people. There is not a friendlier group on earth and their cordial hospitality made this a very special trip.

In previous episodes we have visited a number of locations where the manifestation of restless spirits seems to be inevitably tied to tragic events in the distant past. A medieval castle, which lies in the heart of rural Ireland, is apparently the scene of just such a phenomenon. Join us, as we uncover the Phantoms of Leap Castle.

Yup, that was near the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre that was part of the Newgrange tour. They covered the Hill of Tara, Knowth, and Newgrange. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone. https://www.newgrangetours.com/

I heard that in future they may not let people enter the Newgrange inner chamber, which was the best part, so we should consider ourselves lucky we got to see it. It was a bucket list thing for me.

I guess you've got to weigh it up with preservation and whether being a tourist site can be damaging. The way is was built to catch the sunlight on the winter solstice is what is so magical about it. It was quite a few years ago that I was there and I've never forgotten it. There are a lot of ancient monuments in Ireland. Skellig Michael would be pretty special to visit. My parents did Croagh Patrick in the past. My mother said it was very hard.

I would kill to go to Great Skellig or other mountain ranges in Ireland like Croagh Patrick. I feel like Ireland has a lot of "bang" and gorgeous scenery for such a small country. A sight at every corner. It blows me away.

This is the problem with sitting browsing the internet. A quiet Tuesday evening quickly becomes a very early Wednesday morning with the alarm going off and me questioning what I booked last night. But this was the only moment of regret, once I arrived in Ireland, I knew I was onto something pretty cool. Originally I'd thought a wee overnighter in Cork was the plan. I'm so glad I went the extra few miles to Cobh - It is genuinely one of the coolest towns I've ever visited, with everything I look for - sea views, ships of all description, friendly, laid back locals, and a proper Guinness :)

Join me on my short time in Cobh and discover some of the history this small town has to offer. And yes, I'll also take you for that pint.

Filmed on location in Cobh, County Cork on 22nd/23rd June 2022.

Itinerary and costs:
Ryanair flights £50
22 Jun EDI ORK FR3732 0735 0855
23 Jun ORK EDI FR3739 2140 2255
Seat Reservations £4 per flight
Bus Cork Airport - City 2.20euro each way
Train Cork - Cobh 3.90euro each way

Our spectacular adventure in Ireland from drone. We visited in 7 days lot of wonderful places - Cliffs of Moher, Rock of Cashel, Kilkenny castle, Drombeg Stone Circle, Burren National Park or Charles Fort. Due to the irish weather we couldn't fly with drone in many places. We also visited Galway, which is amazing small towm full of lovely people, irish music and pubs. Unfortunately last day came the hurricane Ophelia and we had to stay in our cottage on the farm.

Grafton Street began its life as a small country laneway but has become one of the most expensive retail streets in the world. Filmed in December 2023 when the street is adorned with Christmas Lights and window displays this tour tells the story of the streets development and the businesses past and present that have operated here.
