View Full Version : Does Berber usually show up as "Mediterranean" on tests without the north african component?

Im curious since i tend to score very high mediterranean on gedmatch but ancestryDNA only gives me <1%. Which is very very weird xD MyHeritage also gives me no hispanic or french whatsoever. (but that test sucks anyway) then there are websites like DNA.LAND and GenePlaza that give me 12-14% East Mediterranean, and some ambigious percentages that add up to be like 7%> or so. and then theres gencove that sucks and gives me 31% Scandinavian... lol ok.

here are my results from MyGenomeBox:

35.75%
Africa

15.43%
South
Europe

14.89%
West
Europe

12.36%
North
Europe

11.46%
East
Europe

3.74%
East
Asia

3.07%
South
America

2.23%
Asia

1.07%
North
America

i only score 2.23% Asia (Arabian) and somehow 3.74% East asian, however that east asian percentage is not belonging to my amerindian because it isnt any higher than <4%. So 3.74%+2.23% = 5.97% Arabian.

5.97% Arabian + 14.65% North African (35.75% - 21.10% = 14.65 remaining North african or arabian percentage) = 20.62% MENA. So does my "Berber" component get sucked into my Mediterranean/SSA or what do you guys think?

And also, this MyGenomeBox test includes the whole continent of Africa, so it also includes North. So could make sense why it is 35% and not 21%, because my arabian or NA got sucked in there maybe. Any ideas?

West Med and Red Sea usually.

Lol, that makes alot more sense then. If that's the case then my eurogenes K13 results arent too inaccurate only the percentages are a bit off and more european focused. Then again it's Eurogenes and it's best for people of mostly west eurasian ancestry, and with not more than 2 ancestral components. I think that's basically the case on almost every test as the mixed population mode only picks up on the 2 largest percentages, and not a additional Arab percentage in my case for example. Thats why the mixed mode usually gives me 67-70% European and 30-33% SSA lol.

Mine appears like this at MyHeritage :

But makes sense that they dilute into West Med and Red Sea.

Jup true, on tests i usually dont score alot of North african, perhaps 1% or 5.17% depending on which test, ethiohelix K10 + french gives me 14.16% i think, Africa9 Dodecad gives me 5.17%, and 21.84% SW_Asian. So i think its still safe to say that i am more arabian than NA but yeah. its def there xD
