Vibo Valentia must be, along with Reggio Calabria one of the more "outlying" regions because I have a second result from there, distantly related to the first one, who is scoring extremely high SW Asian on all calculators.

All the Doric areas in Italy (Syracuse, Apulia, Crotone) have somewhat more NE European than the rest. It is not a large difference but it shows in the oracles that there is a difference between these results.

Ok but so did Mycanaeans compared to Minoans

The questions now are how does the NE of these Doric colonies compare to the rest?

Is the difference about the same Mycanaeans have compared to Minoans or larger`?

Are these Doric areas closer to the Mycanaeans or the rest of Calabria and Sicily closer to Mycanaeans?

This shows that Cypriots at the core are Greeks

Because Caucasus in South Italians isn't higher than in Greeks or even slightly lower.

Cretans have higher Caucasus than South Italians but same or less Near Eastern.

Some Mainland Greeks can have higher Caucasus too

At least some Maniots have i think

The big difference between southern Italians and Greeks is particularly that the latter have almost twice the EHG, while southern Italians have more Caucasus, more Middle East and in some cases more African admixture.

Yes. I was told people in south Italy think all blonde hair/blue eyes come from Normans so people probably think he is some lost Norman or something

He does not look like someone who would be genetically more West Asian than average for south Italy but that's what the results say. I am interested to see where he would plot on Eurogenes K15 so I put him as one of the samples on Anthrogenica and labeled it "Crotone Calabria", so we'll see.

I think I was using a wrong term, with EHG I meant Baltic Hunter Gatherer, basically mostly WHG with 15% ANE.
EHG is 25% WHG and 75% ANE.

Calabria had many assimilated Jews. Though most people now have no knowledge of it. I have a cousin (4th) from Reggio who has confirmed his ancestry back several generations who does not know of any Jewish and he scores 11% Red Sea.

The first person in this thread, and the 4th cousin of mine, are the highest I've seen yet, one of those being 11%.

For Sicily the limit I've seen for Red Sea tends to be 8% which was in someone from Messina and Caltanissetta, with the lowest being 2% in a Syracusan.

The first person in this thread, and the 4th cousin of mine, are the highest I've seen yet, one of those being 11%.

At such a high percentage they stop being Calabrians.

If Pontic Greeks (who plot with Armenians and not in Greece) can be Greek then assimilated Jews (again we have no proof this person is ethnically Jewish but it is likely it is in there) can be Calabrese.

Is an Apulian with over 10% East Europe + Baltic on K15 also not Apulian?

But with that said I think it depends, if someone's foreign ancestry is so far back it cannot be traced on a paper trail at that point I think they are Calabrian. One could easily argue a Sicilian with extremely high North Sea is no longer Sicilian with that standard because of the Norman input (there are A FEW examples of this, I know you'll say you don't think Norman ancestry is present in the vast majority), or someone in any country who is so atypical is not what they identify with. An Irish person plotting in Scandinavia (which happens) would no longer be Irish, and so on. Some East Germans plot in Eastern Europe. There are atypical people everywhere.

I am more likely to consider East Europe/Baltic a component making someone not Calabrese, over Red Sea. But that is just me.

But my standard is this: if you do not know of foreign ancestry and it's so far back and assimilated that is one thing, having a known great grandparent or more recent who is foreign makes one not fully native.

Parents and grandparents born in one region or country = full native. You do have to draw the line at some point.

With Calabria, given that Jewish presence was large and they're nearly all assimilated now, I think that it can be written off as native. If these results belonged to people who were 1/8 foreign in recent times then absolutely they would not be listed on here by me as Calabrese.

Does having parents and grandparents born in the same country qualify as immigrant? Once again:

I'm one of the least liberal members on this "European" community and you'd probably not wanna know my views on globalism and immigration (LOL) but neither do I feel like talking about it here, I generally refrain from discussing issues I have a strong opinion on after some intense time spent on TA.

Not really. If we follow your criteria, many non French or non British can be considered now ethnic French or British.

Yes, people call them second or third generation migrants.

What is your threshold then? Should they all be deported? Do you disregard culture, language, identity altogether? By the way, I'm not a a civic nationalist myself, but people usually don't get to see their great-grandparents. If was born in Italy, my parents were born in Italy and my grandparents were also born in Italy and we all spoke Italian and were Roman Catholics, I would consider myself Italian.

Most Calabrese likely would not know they would score so much Red Sea or whatever unless they tested. They probably do not know of any Jewish roots.

Yeah thats just your opinion and if it comes from an ancient source than i don't see why it shouldn't considered part of native ancestry.

Anyway the Baltic in Calabrians is fairly low.

On the other hand where is your source or historical evidence for a large scale assimilation of Jews in Calabria?

If anything such would have taken place then more in the urban centers of the region.

What i knew so far is that much of the Calabrian countryside were pretty isolated villages where people followed old conservative customs with very limited acces for outsiders and
resisted any invading and occupying force even the Italian state and were very clanish and still speaken Greek dialects.

Similar to corresponding places in Crete

What the hell would Jews have lost there?

Well, a thousand years no one there identified as Italian, I suppose. And there were several groups of people living in Southern Italy back then, as far as I know.
