The Barbados government has invested heavily in education, resulting in a literacy rate of 98%, one of the highest in the world. Primary runs from 4 to 11, with secondary 11 to 18. The majority of schools at both levels are state-owned and run.

Thats amazing progress on their part. Especially in the carribean where they tend to have a very relaxed, seize the moment type lifestyle. Barbados was always on the higher end in terms of education in the caribbean region and its good to see it paying off to place themselves on a global standard. Hopefully they expand beyond primary/secondary education though. Thats one of the problems over there where most people don't end up continuing into college/university level.
