EDIT: Can someone change the Title to "Are Nepali's mestizos of the old world?" I clicked on the button too fast.

I know Nepal is a diverse country where you can find full South Asians and various Mongoloid groups, but some are a mixture of the two. I know a girl from work, and I originally guessed her somewhere in South America. We hired her friend from Nepal and he worked with us for a little bit, but was more Caucasoid influenced except for his eyes.

I am talking about the population that looks like this:

I think Nepal is a combination of South Asian and East Asian people, with hybrid looking groups. So yes, in a way, Nepal is an Asian mestizo country. Although I think quite a few countries in SE Asia, and Central Asia, are hybrids in their own way.

Nepal is a racially diverse frontier country. The mixture of Nepalis over various ethnicity/caste groups is such diverse that it cannot be easily generalized. Moreover, Nepal has 121 endogamous castes/ethnicities of just 30 million people; so to divide every endogamous group of Nepal between South Asia and East Asia is difficult. I will explain averages of some main groups of Nepal in your own Latin terms lol:

Brahmins/ Bahuns - racially almost South Asian (95%)
Kshatriyas/ Chhetris - South Asian castizo (75% South Asian; 25% East Asian)
Thakuris - South Asian Harnizo (60% South Asian; 40% East Asian)
Newars - Mestizo (50% South Asian; 50% East Asian)

Those are averages while it goes case by case basis for individuals. All other ethnic Sino-Tibetans (East Asian groups) carry less than 20% South Asian and ethnic Terai plainland people are unadmixed with East Asian at all and are more Australoid/Veddoid shifted South Asians, so really don't know which side the strings are pulled. The girl you picked is a Thakuri; they can be anywhere between Castizo to Mestizo in South Asia. Yeah, the racial admixture of Nepal is of the old world. Also, Nepali is a nationality (not a single ethnicity) and its racial proportions are dependent on its separate caste groups/ethnicities of the individual also considering their modern day inter-ethnicity interaction. Do not hastily generalize all Nepalis as Mestizo.

To understand the racial diversity of Nepal, please read the answer of Abhishek Adhikari in Quora (Why do some Nepali people look like the Chinese?)
