Migrant parents living in 'ghettos' in Denmark will be forced to send their children to classes on the country's values from the age of one under a new government scheme.
The infants, largely from low income or heavily Muslim populated areas which the government has called 'ghettos', will undergo lessons in religious holidays and learn the Danish language.
The 'harsh' new laws will target immigrant neighbourhoods who do not willingly merge into Danish society, the New York Times reports.

From the age of one, 'ghetto children' — those born into concentrated urban areas with high gang violence and unemployment rates — will be forced into public education, spending a minimum of 25 hours per week away from their parents.
The rules target 25 enclaves that consider factors such as residents’ income, employment status and criminal convictions.
Kids will be taught the traditions of Christmas and Easter while learning to speak Danish.
According to Reuters, the government said if parents fail to enroll children, they could lose their welfare benefits.
Conservative leader Soren Pape Poulsen rubbished claims the initiative 'singles out' Muslims, insisting an understanding of Danish values is requisite to 'have a good life in Denmark', regardless of race or background.
The 'ghetto' areas are filled with non-Western immigrants however.
As of 2017, Denmark's housing ministry said non-Western immigrants made up 66.5 percent of ghetto populace.
They also account for 8.7 percent of Denmark's 5.7 million population.
Around half a million are from Muslim backgrounds, a group that swelled with Afghan, Iraqi and Syrian refugees crossing Europe, according to New York Times.
The Danish government have been attempting to assimilate 'ghetto' communities into mainstream society for decades.
In March, a plan to eradicate ghettos by 2030 under a 'One Denmark' scheme was unveiled by Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.
The PM said he wanted to ensure people of non-Western backgrounds were contributing to society.
A month earlier, authorities proposed to double punishments in underprivileged parts of the country struggling with crime.
The bill also suggested setting up so-called 'special punishment zones' by police to hand out more severe punishments for certain offences such as theft and vandalism.
Last week, Denmark voted to ban the niqab and burqa, becoming the fifth European country to pass such a law.
