That or some Cyclades/North Aegean islanders. What strikes me as interesting is how low this person's Red Sea, North African, and SW Asian are for Sicily but also, their NE European, like some other people in their area, is higher than average.

What do you attribute these differences to?

Obviously no recent influence from Semitic people migrating to Sicily unlike other parts of the Island

Also no ancient influence from Phoenicians probably

I think it is evident from the results we have, that Syracuse and neighboring parts of Ragusa and Catania have lower input from Semitic language communities.

So what explains the higher NE Euro? Do you think it means Doric Greek input? What is interesting is on PuntDNA-L K13, this person comes out 3/4 Sicilian and 1/4 Thessalian, but you can also model them as all Sicilian except 1/16 East Slavic. These two models might be genetically equivalent.

I think its inappopriate to say the NE itself is Doric.
It would be more reasonable to say it was brought with Dorians
The Dorians might have brought some NE Euro but only as a minor part of their ancestry just like this person.

This person himself might resemble more what ancient Dorians were like

Maybe this result is a good example of pre-Slavic mainland Greeks.

Well look at the Maniots result in comparison if you can find it and see that they are almost the same.

And its the Maniots who have direct links to Ancient Spartans not the other Mainlanders so much.

Certainly not Vlachs or Arvanites.

West Cretans by the way should also be pretty close to this person.

Yeah i know

Palermo has more Phoencian influence than the East
Even Triandafilidis says this to whom i often refer.

Though this persons seems also to have alot of Ancient Greek.

If you look at their top ten components you can see that they have still alot of components in common.

Ashkenazi,Central Greek,South Italian,Sicilian appear as common denominators in both of them.

Its what i was always saying is that all these groups Dorians,Ionians and other Greek tribes share common parts of basic ancestry and their main difference
is that they have some distinct extra parts on top of that.

But you can clearly see that Ancient Greek tribes were clearly related groups and not entirely distinct one from another

There is clearly a south Italian "base" and from that base I notice SE Sicily has additional NE European ("Balto Slavic"), western Sicily has more Afroasiatic. But the base is the same.

The name has a Greek origin. There is a Greek surname "Ragousis" also that I have seen, surely it is of similar derivation.

Looks very similar to the one Maniot result posted here
in the past

So this is my question. The historical record, or commonly cited theory at least, has always been that ancient Greeks settled the coasts and the indigenous population of eastern Sicily, the Siculi, were forced to move inland. Do you think this is true?

This might be true

Possibly the Siculi were driven Inland from both sides

By the Phoenicians in the West and the Greeks from the East.

Since the Siculi remained independent and had probably more an Archaic way of life compared to the much more organsized and urbanized
Greeks and Phoenicians they probably build enclaves in more isolated regions of the Island for example in Mountain regions.

However i don't believe in a Genocide against them commited by Greeks.

Genocide was not in the Greeks tradition.

Greeks would simply enslave perhabs foreign people or push them out of the regions where the settled

More like they assimilated them or something, and that the Greeks made up more greater numbers than their Phoenician counterparts. Cypriots for example are ethnic Greeks with diverse genetic components including Balkan Greek admixture.

There wouldn't be any unmixed Siculi today because the regions they were forced to move inland to, would later be overrun by multiple Middle Eastern and North African groups. Though I did read in multiple places that there was a time where every part of Sicily was culturally and linguistically Greek, which should correspond to after which point everyone there ceased to identify as Phoenician, Elymian, Siculi, or Sicanian.

Obviously

Even Palermo is derived from ancient Greek Panormos,Πανορμος

And Segesta has a well preserved ancient Doric temple https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/ff/Segesta%2C_Tempio_greco.jpg

Segesta (Ancient Greek (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greek_language): Ἔγεστα, translit. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Ancient_Greek) Egesta;[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segesta#cite_note-1) Sicilian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicilian_language): Siggésta) was one of the major cities of the Elymian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elymians) people, one of the three indigenous peoples of Sicily. The other major cities of the Elymians were Eryx (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eryx_(Sicily)) and Entella (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entella). It is located in the northwestern part of Sicily (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicily) in Italy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy), near the modern comune (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comune) of Calatafimi-Segesta (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calatafimi-Segesta) in the province of Trapani (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Trapani). The Hellenization (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellenization) of Segesta happened very early and had a profound effect on its people.[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segesta#cite_note-2)

We don't know how pre-Punic/Greek Sicilians were like genetically. Btw if you can, send me this GEDmatch kit in private message please.

The way to see it is all Sicily is similar but the west is marginally more Afroasiatic than the east. Trapani is an outlier though and some southeasterners.
