His mother was Irish.

She was of Anglo and Scottish descent. She wasn't a native (Gaelic, Catholic) Irishwoman.

So you aren't American? I'm getting a bit annoyed with people saying that Irish people like Oscar Wilde and Marconi's mother aren't Irish. They identified as Irish and are we going to say that English people like Maggie Thatcher and John Lennon aren't English because they had non-English ancestry? Is Arthur Conan-Doyle Irish or Scottish?

I'm American because I'm descended from 13 Colonies-Era settlers/Revolutionary war soldiers.

Thatcher and Lennon were both part English, so they are multiethnic.

Conan Doyle was Irish, even if he lived in Scotland, just like Richard Dawkins isn't Kenyan even though he was born there.

By the same token, all the Moslems born in Europe to migrant parents or grandparents are not real Europeans and never will be.

They were mixed, just like Marconi is still Italian even though he was half.

And I'm not fully American. I'm 1/4 American, 3/4 European.

Probably he will land somewhere in Rhineland valley. Autosomally speaking.

I didn't realize half North Italians could cluster with Germans

There's a half-Romanian half-Irish guy on this forum who clusters with Germans, so It's not really surprising for a half-North Italian. Germans are more south shifted than the British and Irish.

But on PCA it is taken into account only his average similarity.

I thought he clustered with Austrians, not Germans proper.

I found the average between the Tuscan and English dots on K15, and it's somewhat south of West_German

Closer to West Germans than Austrians actually.

Tuscans aren't North Italians
