View Full Version : George Michael probably clustered with East-Central Italians

His father was a Greek Cypriot, his mother a native Englishwoman. If you trace to a point halfway between England and Cyprus on the Eurogenes K15 plot, you get a point slightly to the east of the Marche average.

Marche is a region in East Central Italy.

And ?

Why shouldn't he cluster with Mainland Greeks then instead?

East Central Italians also cluster with Mainland Greeks

The halfway point between Cyprus and England on the K15 plot is closer to Italy than to Thessaly, which is the closest Italian region.

Mainland Greeks have admixture from Balkan Slavic people that Michael would not have.

The average Mainlander plots right next to the part of Italy where George Micheal plots or even more South
in the case of Southern Mainlanders.

big deal
that's why clustering shouldn't be taken so literally
he has very foreign traits from his British mother and can't pass Greece/Cyprus
his father though (dispite his clustering) passes fine in Greece

He can pass in Greece. Most people in the 80's (particularly the US) thought he was full Greek including myself.

George Michael can't pass as English, either.
He could probably pass as Balkan or Central Italian.

his British influence is very visible here (especially eyes like it was mentioned)
he looks totally New World mix
you will never find a Greek with this combination of features

You have more of a "western" shift and not a NE European one, so it is likely he would be similar to you.

He was 1/8 Jewish from his English side... probably would result a minor south shift.

Yup, he'd go unnoticed. I'm still struggling to understand the point behind the "how well they'd pass here and there" thing though.

He once claimed his mom was Jewish but in fact, he had no Jewish ancestry whatsoever.

IDK. According to English (and Hebrew) Wikipedia his maternal grandmother is Jewish.. so He is 25% Jewish and not 12.5% as I stated (I thought they said great-grandmother).

90% of such questions are posed by our Italo American R1a friend and similar folks

So you should better adress them about this.

Anyway i posted this guy because even though he is Cretan i think he is a good example of a typical Cypriot look
