One of the most northern-shifted southern Italians I've seen, not only getting Tuscan as a top match but Northern Italian as well in a couple calculators. Ancestry appears to mostly come from Piedimonte d'Alife (now called Piedimonte Matese, Caserta) and Cerreto Sannita (Benevento). Should be said that deep in the pedigree chart there are two surnames with origins in Sicily and Tuscany respectively.

What the hell??? Are you sure there hasn't been recent and considerable admixture in this person? They seem way too north shifted to be entirely from the region.

Could they have Spanish or north Italian ancestry is my question. I have never seen anything like this before for a full south Italian. Though then again if you can be from Sicily and score 68% West Asian on 23andme, which I did see in one person, maybe this is the other end of that spectrum..

Whats interesting is I can find no evidence of northern settlement, or northern languages/dialects been spoken in this area. It does seem relatively isolated though, deep inland near the border of Molise, however I have seen other results from Benvenuto and Caserta province and they're at most Abruzzo/West Sicilian like, so its not typical for inner/northern Campania. Extremely intriguing results.

@Tacitus do you have any info which could help explain this result?

Much more North and Iberian shifted than the stuff Sikeliot posts

Not really; the area is pretty isolated and mountainous (just Google "monti matese" to see what I mean) so it could just be a matter of genetic drift in this person's case. Like you said upthread, results from this part of southern Italy can shift northward, but nothing quite like this though.

I double (and tripled) checked just about every name in this person's GEDCOM tree and with the exceptions I noted in the OP, all the surnames in his tree either are exclusive to Campania or peak in Campania.

Thanks, truly baffling. I never expected a Campanian to shift this northward. It'd be great to get more GEDmatch results from this specific area to see if they show similar results.

I don't post Campanians.

Ok but in general you claim Italians don't have overlapp with Iberians and
i think i remember you claiming in the past that even Campanians shift South from Mainland Greeks.

Not surprising at all.
