They are both fairly representative for their respective groups. The Sunni has both high Anatolian/Caucasian and Norman inputs, which makes him comes out as Cyprian. Notice how Palestinian doesn't even show up in his top 20! The Shiite has just a very minor Italo-Norman input. Both score below 10% Red Sea and over 15% West Med.

Their results are actually very close, whatever the extra admixture Sunni sample has, it's very minimal.

No they are not. In many studies Lebanese Muslims show to be indistinguishable from Lebanese Christians. This person has a whooping 8.45 distance to Lebanese Christians.

You probably have used a Cypriot Maronites result. In any case you’re a troll as your posting history shows and your posts are always misleading.

Dude, is this because of the Antiochian Greek Orthodox thread? I think the title was pretty clear and everyone understood he was a Levantine follower of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch, and not an actual Greek from Antioch.

But I do agree with the rest of your post, there isn't much difference, except for some Norman in Muslims which makes them slightly closer to Europeans. Chill.

Interesting, plotting with Palestinians with a slight shift towards Armenians(and also Assyrians if they were on the plot). Not surprising I always expected Lebanese Muslims to be quite close to Palestinians.

Cool results!

Thanks. What do you make of the fact that out of all groups in Lebanon, Sunni Muslims turned out to be the least closest to Palestinians and the closest to Europe in general? I think they've retained much of their Norman input but they also must have some Mamluk admixture, which would explain their higher Anatolian and even Baltic scores.

As for Shiites the explanation is much simpler, as the only Shiite population in the Levant and highly persecuted, they remained fairly genetically isolated and the only sign of foreign admixture from the last couple hundred years seems to be from the times of the Crusades, hence the usual Samaritan + some minor French/ItalianSpanish model works fine for them. Well these are the patterns I've noticed for each group so far.

It's pretty interesting. I thought they would plot closer as I get Lebanese Muslim in my top 10 but obviously its not always the other way around. The Lebanese muslims seem more anatolian influenced, more euro influenced and have much less Red Sea compared to Palestinians and the SSA is in noise levels in the samples you posted. I do wonder if I got my euro elements from my great grandmother who was Lebanese but in my case it looks like British/German/Scandinavian rather than French and Italian. Curious what her gedmatch results would have looked like.

They certainly have quite low SSA.
