By any chance Sephardi Jew from latin America/Spain/Former Spanish Morocco/ Balkan-Turkey area?
His MDLP results are kinda similar to mine and if you remove my Berber ancestry (which the group I mentioned above should lack) they would be almost identical.

Sephardic Jewish would make sense but it could easily be a Southern Italian or Maltese instead, with my first guess going to Western Sicily. I find his Red Sea and East Med on the low side but his West Asian pretty high.

Half gefilte fish, half lasagna.

She is a Sicilian woman from year 2500 BC (most likely a Sicanian, with Bell Beaker admixture). The only one of three samples on GEDmatch that is not of incredibly poor quality.

Yeah it looks like much of the Anatolian/Caucasus affinity in Italy came quite early during the Bronze Age. One of the North Italian Beakers has West Asian admixture as well.

Yes.

It looks to me like the earliest Sicilians (or those that would have been there before the Phoenicians settled, we might call them "Sicanian") would have been a mixture of Sardinian and Caucasus.

Yup. The Caucasus ancestry probably came via Anatolia. Sicilian Beakers, Minoans, Neolithic Peloponnese, etc. seem to shift towards Anatolia_BA and Anatolia_Chl on PCA's. Its also just makes sense from a geographical perspective. Here is one of Pre-Kurgan (Pre Indo-European) Europe and Anatolia I made from the Eurogenes scaled Global 25 datasheet.

I think it is fairly clear also from the genetic record that the Sicanians most likely did not, unlike claimed by the ancient Greek writers, originate in Iberia.

I think it is fairly clear also from the genetic record that the Sicanians most likely did not, unlike claimed by the ancient Greek writers, originate in Iberia.

If the Sicilians were also a Sardinian/Caucasus mix, what makes them any different from the Mycenaeans?

The Sicilian Beaker didn't have any steppe ancestry. Mycenaeans had a small amount, but on PCA's they cluster similarly regardless.

The other implication of this is that since we know Sicilians started out with no Steppe, we can infer that Sicilians today with higher amounts of Steppe (SE Sicily, Trapani), have the greatest amount of foreign DNA over the millennia.

So the Sicilians would have been the same as the Minoans genetically? Or did the Minoans have more Caucasus?

They appear to me, as Minoans with a bit less Caucasian.

Yeah people often assume northern ancestry only came very early in Italian history but I share your belief that post-Roman era groups such as the Normans and peninsular Italian migrants/settlers in Sicily did have a notable genetic impact on the island. I also think this is true with the Lombards in Northern Italy.

How it looks to me is this:

- Sicily went a very long time without much Steppe input at all, and until the Normans, likely had as little as Cyprus.
- All of Sicily received, on top of their EEF + Caucasus base, about 20-25% historical MENA input.
- Parts of the island received mainland Italian, Norman, and Slavic-admixed mainland Greek input, shifting them north.

So to me, those Messina/Palermo results with under 10% North European, are MORE native, not less.
