His attachment to the material world is limited by his honouring of his ancestors who gave him life.

As a warrior the least material attachment that he can have is to his own life and the life of others.

Abandoning which he loses his status as a warrior altogether.

Sleep is a form of death. That's why the weapon he unleashes induces sleep. It's the least offensive form of weapon.

That's why the whole story is about her drowning/killing the children.

And it's about sex. Because sex is the means of procreation.

He puts himself in a spiritual/yogic platform by giving up sex altogether which maybe "purity" like the holy ganges.

"loneliness, frustration, sadness" might have something to do with sex and courtship?

Anyways his bottledup semen gives him exceptional lifeforce.

His sexual purity might be related to the sanctity of the Holy Ganges.
