He's saying that Turks should embrace all the different kinds of peoples and assimilate them to the Turkish population as what Ataturk wanted. Being a Turk is not some racial or dependent on genetic ancestry.

Turks are those who founded the Turkish Republic. The pioneers of the foundation of Turkey were Balkan Turks. Hadn't it been for officers from Thessaloniki, Bitola etc. Anatolia would've been partitioned between British, French and Italians, would have probably ended up as a business hub like Hong Kong.

Syrians, Iraqis, Afghans are recent immigrants and had no role in the foundation of Turkish Republic.
