I am not familiar on what does Northern Ireland represent. I know there were problems in the past. Are citizens of Northern Ireland - Irish or Scottish or British? And would they be open to unify with Ireland or stay independent and segregated?

Northern Irish split from the Ireland when the U.K. gave Ireland its independence and most Protestant Irish moved there and became UK citizens. They are I guess ethically Irish but from the U.K. I read I study that said most Northern Irish people don't want to unify with Ireland, I think there's only about 1 million people so it isn't much of a difference.

I've got some ancestors from there :).

People born in N. Ireland are eligible to be both Irish and UK citizens simultaneously. Ireland grants citizenship to anyone born in NI regardless of sect.
